I'm going to get a Rockford Fosgate P212S8 12" Subwoofer and it has a 200 RMS and 400 peak. What size amp do I need and what is a good one?

Depends on which amp maker you like....Honestly if you spend enough money almost any brand has an amp out there for you!!!!! I myself like kicker amps, I would say to get a kicker amp monoblock or 2 channel amp that pushes 200 watts, if that is the only speaker you will ever listen to. Good amps show their RMS Rating, Crappy amps advertise their Peak as what they will push. Kicker amps are tough as nails and not too expensive, kenwood amps are nice too for the money. If you think you may add more speakers in the future though I would say to at least double that.....(you never know)

One major problem is that sub is 8 ohms. If you can find a sub thats 200 watts RMS with a 4 ohm coil would be better. To compensate, you'll need to get an amp that's twice the power RMS.

If you have two of them, then an amp that's 400 watts RMS @ 4 ohms would be best.

Be sure the amp is CEA-2006 compliant as the old saying "you get what you pay for" is so overplayed.

A mono-output amp with about the same power as your subwoofer. And with amps just keep the old addage in mind that you get what you pay for. I recommend Directed. That's what i have and it's the best one I've used, looks cool too.
