a generally accurate give away is the crest above the beak.
females have tan to dark brown ones while males have blue ones. when the birds are young it may be harder to tell because the color is just developing.

You will know for sure when she lays an egg, if he, you will not have egg to clean up after. You have to get the bird vaccinated at that point ask the doctor, some times it is vary hard to tell in the beginning.

well hate to talk about that but I'll talk.
u have only one way to know. You look under the tail you'll find two holes for a male and one hole for the female . good luck

a male cockateil is normally almost all yellow, and the female is almost always pied, aka kinda brown and yellow stripe thing going on.

tickle it, if she laughs, then it's a female, but if he laughs, then he's a male.
