Has he expressed an interest or is this something that you feel is best for him? Is there a justified reason to want to send him into military life or do you just not want him around?

You do realize of course that the U.S. Armed Services is sending forces over to Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, and other places around the world that would put his life in danger?

Perhaps sending him to college would be a better choice. Either way, he is 18 and it is his choice.

If serving his country is his passion and choice in life, then he will do that, if not he will find another path.

You can't. The military is voluntary. That's why those people who talk about "sending" somebody to Iraq sound so stupid when they say that kind of stuff.

you can`t make him go into the Military but you can go to a local recruiter and have a discussion with him and see if he would want to consider joining then.

He is old enough to make that decision himself. As a parent, you should respect his wishes.

listen to everyone, you can't send him there, just because it makes you feel better. besides, how would you feel if you talked him into going, just to see him come home in a box

You can't. He has to be a willing volunteer. If he isn't, he isn't a good candidate, and honestly, the military doesn't want him.
