If he is retiring, you will have the option to pay for Tricare for Life or Tricare Standard. If he is just ETSing out, you will have the option to pay for Tricare for up to 6 months after he gets out. This is a good option if you have some sort of on-going medical problem that would hinder you from getting other health insurance.

I'm not sure how much it costs, but if you call Tricare or go to the Tricare office on post I'm sure they could help you out.

If you are pregnant or have some other short-term medical condition, perhaps he should consider extending for a few months.

If that isn't the case, I suggest you move early to where you're going and get a job with medical benefits. If you time it right, you will have very little time without coverage or perhaps even two coverages for a couple of weeks. And knowing you already have a job when he gets out solves a lot more problems in addition to medical coverage.

Check into the "Tricare for life" program. It is a lot less expensive than being uninsured!!!

Nope. Once he finishes with his terminal leave, your military benefits are finished, including tricare.

If he retires you will. If he just gets out you are on your own.
