I think your non creative mind has it about covered. Try a cupcake for the 1 year old and save the cake for the adults. Have a good time and take lots of pictures. Even though they don't know what all the fuss is about, when they get older they enjoy the pictures and asking questions about it.

We did a party in the park for my daughter and brother who share a birthday (mothers day may 8th). At one year old the baby probably isn't going to remember it much so you really are catering to the older kids at the party. Take that into account. You could try doing something at like McDonalds where there is a playland or another kid friendly place such as ChuckECheeses. These two are good for the younger kids and older kids alike since it has fun stuff to do. Go to a dollar store for decorations, candles and gift wrap, this will save alot of money since in a regular store it can be costly for just a pack of candles and some streamers, balloons and some party hats. If you want to make your own ball pit that could entertain kids. Get a container (box, kiddy pool or whatever is the right size) and fill it with water balloons that have been blown up like regular balloons (most water balloons are small like the ball pit balls). I really don't know about themes unless you want to do like a cowboy theme or dinosaur or something like that but with themes can come extra expense. Just remember that the baby isn't really going to understand what is going on and won't remember it, everyone else may but not the baby.

My sons 1st birthday was last week. We just had some cake and presents. We got a store bought cake, and gave him a piece. Try to plan a party after the childs nap, you don't want a fussy baby its no fun when baby is upset.

My family just has a social gathering. Make or buy a special cake for her child and take lots of pictures. Your guests will probably buy presents for you baby. So sit on the flour with your 1 year old and help him/her open the gifts, he/she will be happy with the wrapping paper. Then say thank you to everyone.

My mother had started a collection of the "Precious Moments" circus train for my daughter so for a cake topper I had the 1 yr old figurine placed on top. We had a small get together, there was myself of course, my mother (well we were living with her at the time) my niece and of course my sister, and a friend of mine who had two children one was about 3 months older than my daughter and the other was about a year and half older. We sinply let the kids play and when they got tired they napped together while us "grown ups" had lunch.

Just keep it simple, maybe invite 1 little friend her age. I read somewhere that you should invite 1 friend for each year of the childs age or it becomes too overwhelming for them. Cute cupcakes are a good idea too. You could also play some of that fun baby music at the party, my little one loves it.

Maybe a jumper house thing? That's what I am thinking about doing for my son. Will it be warm where you are?
