Our wonderful baby Tink just turned 1 year old and she is wonderful. We are looking at getting another dog and have a dilemma. We would love to get another lab and have a great relationship with our breeder, but would 2 big dogs INSIDE be a total mistake?

Anyone with helpful information and experience would be appreciated!

Oh, we have a huge fenced in yard and doggy door and Tink is very mellow for her to still be a puppy. She would love a sister, but we don't want to go crazy!

Hmmmm... it would depend. If your house is small and you are away a lot, maybe having two big dogs in your house wouldn't be the best idea, but it could work out if they were trusted enough to be left alone. Having a fenced in yard is great, but maybe if you have two big dogs in your house you should teach them outside is for play and inside is for mellow behavior.

But overall since your dog is mellow I say go for it if you think it is the right idea!!!

Oh are you lucky! LOL!! I have a 3 year old yellow lab - male. He has always been so hyper that I tell everyone that he's ADHD. He's a handful! The vet said take him to obedience classes, which I did when he was a year old. He was the most active in the class. Did well on the lessons, but very hard for him to stay focused for more than 3 seconds! I would love to have another lab myself, but what would I do if I had 2 like him! Just a little humor to help you keep it in perspective.

My mom has a Rott and a Rhodesian Ridgeback (both inside dogs). So size doesn't have to be a problem. As long you have the doggy door to give them freedom to come and go, and a big yard to run in, and because Tink's already so mellow...I say GO FOR IT!!!

We have both big and small dogs, but my wife is at home all the time. The only concern I would have is that Tink, in play, may accidently injure a small dog if you're not around. If you really want a companion for Tink, get another Lab, maybe a male this time.

our oldest dog is 2 years and 4 months and we just picked up a second lab yesterday!! he is 4 months old. So far so good, but he is goign to get big. Looks like I may be fencing my yard this summer. All long as you have enough love to give both dogs you should be just fine.

We have 4 large dogs in the house; a Bloodhound (95lbs), a Golden/Black Lab mix (70lbs), a Black Mouth/Mountain Cur mix (80lbs) and a German Shorthaired Pointer (55lbs). It all comes down to how much you like having dogs around and how much craziness you can deal with. My Lab/Golden was a calm puppy until I got the adult Bloodhound though. Then she went wild. I believe she is happier with playmates though.

I have two large dogs in the house (a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Belgian Malinios) and I do not have any problems with them, but they are well trained and fairly mellow. I think as long as they are well trained, then you won't have any problems.

If you get a lab, get a male. They are more mellow. Rodesian Ridgebacks and German shepards are very mellow dogs also. I have a Ridgeback-german shepard mix and she is the most mellow dog ever.
