It's actually spelled XANAX and it is prescribed for anxiety. It is highly addictive!

I saw another answer that said it can be very addicting, and they are absolutely right, it can be. I would also suggest that you be very careful and do not ever take more than prescribed. So to answer your questions: It worked for me to take away severe anxiety. Over the years I found that I prefer Ativan as it doesn't cause as much drowsiness but effectively takes the anxiety away. But I will take a Xanax at night if I can't sleep. The results are usually felt within 10 to 15 minutes. You will feel all of your anxiety go away and it feels very nice to get rid of those feelings. After taking it for an extended period of time, the euphoric feeling you get from it decreases and it just takes the anxiety away. This is where people run into problems with it. That feeling is very nice and some people will take more and more to keep getting that feeling. That's why it is very important to be very careful with it. If it is going to be a long term thing, I would suggest talking to your doctor about something no quite so addictive. But for now, you should be fine. Go ahead and take it and relax.

There are lots of reasons people are prescribed xanex. Mostly nervousness or stress. My husband was an alcoholic and my mom (who lived with us) is just plain psycho..the Dr. gave me xanex. It was a bit much for me..knocked me right out..went to Valium and most recently joined the Kalanapin club.I believe a xanex (Valium and kalanapin) would ALL fall under the category of "Mothers Little Helper"
