I am convinced that I have to be the most ticklish person on this planet.

Here's the thing, anytime someone touches me (I.E. scratches my back, grabs my arm, etc.) I practically jump from it being so ticklish! It's not that it startles me and it's not that I'm afraid of people touching me or anything like that, it just tickles!

So, I have a few questions:

1. Is it normal to be this ticklish?
2. Is there anything you can do to become less ticklish?
3. Is it more of a "mind of matter" kind of deal?

The reason I ask the 3rd question is because I've got almost a phobia of being tickled. Scratch that--it IS a phobia of being tickled. Like I said, I'm not afraid of being touched. Hugs, high-fives, handshakes--I'm fine with all that. But I am terrified of people tickling my feet or holding me down and tickling me.

So, if you can help me out by answering any (or all) of my 3 questions that'd be great. Thanks a bunch!

1 Is it normal to be this ticklish?
There are many people who are as ticklish as yo if not more so. It is normal.

2. Is there anything that you can do to become less ticklish?
You can learn how to control it if you really want to or need to. I have a friend who was frequently tickle-tortured as a child and she hated to be tickled. She convinced herself that if she could last three seconds without laughing then she would be okay. In time, she was no longer being tickled because she could control it.

You can also relax your muscles and it will not tickle as much.

Some people hold their breath and then concentrate on something (perhaps a picture or a light bulb or something) and focus hard on the item you select and it helps control the tickling.

Some people actually learn to enjoy playful, consensual tickling and love to be ticked then (like me!)

3. Is it more a "mind over matter" kind of deal? For many people, yes. As long as you can concentrate on something else, you will eventually learn to control it or enjoy it - what ever your desired response is.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

All the best to you!

You should try being me! I scream when I'm touched from behind, and I feel like I'm being suffocating when I'm being tickled!
