Who are any of us to say that someone isn't as smart as we are? There are numerous types of intelligence and we all have our own...some people may be more academically gifted than others while some may have more emotional awareness, some may have more practical skills: the list is endless. The only way to treat another human being is to treat them in the way you'd hope to be treated ~ with respect and an open mind. Find out who they are, instead of judging them by what they know or how they speak.

You treat them like people. You do not treat them differently and you certainly do not make them feel inferior to you. The truth is, if you have the gall to ask a question this stupid, you're probably just as smart as these "people not as smart as you."

Very gently. Is that an ok answer?
Just kidding.
There is no person who is not as smart as I am. Everyone can do something better then I can. A baby is better at nursing and crying then I am (sometimes). So I am not smarter then anyone. If I maintain that truth in my heart then I find that I have no worries about how to treat someone.

Well, my innocent and naive mind would like to think that everyone is smart in their own way, on their own level. It's a good philosophy, at least.
I heard it somewhere that:
"You judge a person not by how he treats his equals, or his superiors, but by how he treats his inferiors."
I think that quote came from a book somewhere.

How do you know they are not as smart as you?
Maybe in some areas they are smarter. I had a counsin who had Down's syndrone, who was fluent in english and sign language and would interpet for people. She worked with deaf people to help them. She was so good at translateing and so kind to the deaf she was loved by all. That made her smarter than everyone, by the way she took care of her aging parents.
She could cook and made them their favorite dinner a steak and baked potatoe and a salad. She was definitely a blessing to all of us.

I treat them with the same respect as any one else, with consideration that they do not understand as much and it takes a little bit more time for them to finish a thought. If it is a long term(over a month) thing that I have to deal with some one who is a half wit or a twit then it becomes a problem and I or they have to relocate

Noone is as smart as I am, so the question when posed to me shoud be rephrased "how do you treat people". I treat them like they deserve to be treated, part of which I determine from how they treat me.

Well if you're 'so smart' you wouldn't need to ask this would you.
Oh Lord,it's hard to be humble,
when you're perfect in every way.
You don't have to look in the mirror,
you get better lookin each day.
To know you is to love you,
you must be a heck of a man!
Oh lord it's so hard to be humble
now do the best that you can.

I treat everyone equally. Who says someone isn't as intelligent as you. Sometimes people play dumb, and they are actually quite smart.

It honestly depends how much smarter you ARE. A truly intelligent person will treat everyone with equal respect, although they may shy away from interacting with someone who is too stupid to carry on a decent and meaningful conversation. ;)
Myself? I just tolerate some stupidity - you can't blame someone for not being as educated as you or I.
