I've noticed that a lot of pakistani people do this,i find it discusting,why do people spit for no reason?i could understand if they was ill or something but just to do it for no reason is gross. I've seen alot of teens do it too,what the hell is their problem,trying to look cool maybe?

Its a "Guy-Thing!!" But if you saw a "Pakistan Man" doing it, it may very well be he's spitting some sort of chewing tobacco, out on the ground. Alot of American guys start doing it, because they saw thier dad's do it, when they were little, and so they think it's a "Cool thing" to do, because "Pop's did it!!" Its all about the "Male EGO!!" They think us women think it makes them look or appear more "Macho" when in reality most women like you & I, dont think its too cute at all!!! So, maybe some guys will hopefully pass the word, that we dont like it, when they see your question. So, you've done a "Good Thing" by bringing this up to the whole world who tunes into Yahoo Questions, you know! Thank-You, for all of us women, all over the world!!! Smile!!!

I disagree about the fact that you have singled out a specific group, as a lot of people do this, not just the group you mentioned.
Fluffy political correctness aside and moving on...
Basically its done by stupid and ignorant people.
In the 20's/30's you actually got fined a weeks wages for spitting as it was a common way of distributing the TB virus.

People do it when they are depressed or sick. It isn't only the Pakistani people. Sometimes they do it to get attention but normally it isn't good. Another reason is that the person could be angry at someone. Rarely is it ever done to be cool. I guess that it is disgusting so just try to avoid those people.

If your not spitting... Then your swallowing. And I think thats nasty. As long as you don't spit in front of people or make a big production out of it, its not so terrible. If they are just spitting to look cool then thats just a guy thing thats gross but fun.

Some guys spit when they are getting ready to fight. Sort of a disrespect act toward the other person. Guy's also spit when they are chewing tobacco or using snuff.

I know plenty of Americans that spit on the ground. Mostly because they have boogers or something they have to get rid of.

they might be doing it because of the exhaust and pollution in the air. they dont want to swallow when they feel something bad has enetered their mouths and let bad things into their bodies. in a way, it is smart. a lot of dangerous things enter our bodies through our noses and mouths, not to mention skin. and pollution is everywhere. it doesnt just give you pneumonia or cancer. it can also ruin the chemistry and balance of your body. still they should probably use a cup or some sort of device.
