Is this fraud reasons? As you would know if an incident had happened. Just don't lie - the soft ware used by insurance companies for this purpose is tip top! Plus you will get tied up because you will be asked again & again to explain what happen if any doubt. Don't forget that an insurance claims department deals with 20,000 or so claims a week so will know what is what!

I've only made one claim on my homeowners insurance, and that was for flooding in my basement that occurred because of a power outage. I put through an $8,000 claim and they paid every dime. However, my agent told me if I ever made a similar claim again, I would probably get canceled and find it difficult to find anyone else to insure me. God forbid that an insurance company should actually have to pay out some money!!

well there was the time my mrs left a joint of boiling bacon on the hob and then went round the neighbours. There was acrid brown smoke billowing out of the upstairs windows and the smoke alarm was going mad, but no-one had phoned the fire brigade.

house contents insurance would only pay out if there had been an actual "flame", so I assumed the sooty marks up the wall were caused by the fat on the joint bursting into flame.

oh and there was the time I dropped the TV down the stairs, taking it upstairs so it would be safe while we decorated.

Sure. We claimed for a theft - it was paid out. They stole a buncha hubby's hobby stuff.

No complaints about the claims handling - it was State Farm, and I'm happy with it.

PS, we then got a dog, and put in an alarm system.

Claims can be for a lot of reasons. Theft, fire, windstorm, water damage, hail damage (roof), damage from auto hitting house, frozen pipes, lightning, earthquake (if you have the coverage), identity theft, injuries where homeowner is liable, damage from falling trees. Quite a few reasons.

Aerial pole snapped by high winds. Insurer had to check their database of wind speeds before they would agree to pay for repair.

ok, the only thing insurance companys cant argue with is...storm damage, as it is classed as an 'act of god' and theirfor is not any persons fault....end result, they MUST pay out if u choose to claim on storm damage for whatever reason....
