Some dogs are just the "runts" or the smallest dog in the litter. It does not mean that he is not a purebred, it just means that he was probably the runt of his litter. Check the AKC standards for the Springer Spaniel, and if his description fits everything except the hieght, then he is fine. But if he doesnt match some of the standards for AKC, you probably got ripped off and your dog isnt a purebred. But im mostly sure that he is just the runt of his litter. If not he could still be growing.

Just because he's shorter then the average springer doesn't mean he isn't pedigree.Just like humans, not all dogs are the same and that includes height, thats why alot of dogs dont make show dogs as they dont meet the breed standard. Some springers have longer ears then others, silkier coat etc and length.I would rest assured that your dog is a pedigree. There have been people though, who have bought a springer puppy that they think is pedigree, then it grows up with noticeable differences. It turns out these people had bought a sprocker,[springer x cocker spaniel]with out even knowing. If you saw both your dogs parents and they were defiantly both springers, then so is yours.

There are 2 distinct types of English Springer Spaniel, the working type & the show type. The working type is much lower to the ground than the show type, which is generally quite a bit longer on the leg. There is a good chance yours is a purebred English Springer even if he isn't KC Reg'd, but from working lines where working ability is more important than looks.
I assume he's not a Welsh Springer?

Dont worry at all we had one quite tall and my mother questioned it breed anyway she spent a lot on money only to find it was a true breed, she also found theat the great grandfarther of ours won Cruffts "I think that is how it is spelt" back in its day.
Dont worry, if it is loving and loyal it will be a spaniel

It's probably a normal springer spaniel. My Golden retriever is the smallest one I've ever seen, but's she's still a golden.

The AKC height is 20 inches at shoulder for males, 19 for females. It can be about two inches less though.
