I'm 17, single and for some reason I ended up paying more to social security that federal income tax.
federal - 430.33
ss - 594.46
medicare - 139

i made $9587.62 last year if thats important

Yes that is possible, depending on how you filled in your W4, If you claimed single with 1 or more they are taking less Federal withholding, Social Security taxes are taken out at a flat rate regardless of what you claimed on the W4

Yes, it's very normal for people without a lot of income. Social security is a fixed percentage, but federal income taxes are progressive which means the lowest amount doesn't get taxed at all, and then the rate goes up the more you make.

Totally normal if you have low withholding. For example, if they withhold at a 5% rate, federal will be lower because SS is 6.2%
