It's pretty much the only way to buy a ticket anymore. I fly close to 100 times a year so I buy a lot of e-tickets. I buy all of them online through the airline's website. So when you buy a ticket online, they will send you an e-mail with your itinerary. They won't mail you anything. Ypu should print out the email that the airline sends you. (You don't even need that but it doesn't hurt to keep it). Then, when you go to the airport and check in for your flight, the airline will have your reservation in their computer system. Basically they don't really mail you a paper ticket anymore (unless you pay a hefty fee, but there's no reason to do that since they email you a confirmation anyway).
