My husband took me to C.T's on our third year anniversary last year and our check came out to $560, tip included. That was for two grand menus, one with a wine pairing and one with a juice pairing.

It was an absolutely unforgettable experience. When the server brings out each dish, s/he'll talk about where the ingredients come from, etc. It's almost like taking a trip around the world. Be sure to tell your server what you like because they will bring out little extras for you. For example, I LOVED a chocolate dessert and told the server that I really enjoyed it. He brought out another dessert that was made with similar ingredients for me!

Food was great, service was warm and friendly and very professional and efficient. Each plate was cleared within a minute of being finished and our water glasses were filled right after they reached the half-way point.

When you make your reservation (a month in advance, at least, we were told), make sure to tell them that you're celebrating an anniversary, they will print out a special personalized menu for you. There's a special table in the kitchen, one that is very hard to get and has a more expensive menu (I think!).

You can ask to see the kitchen after dinner. We overheard a couple next to us being turned down because they had a "special" party at the kitchen table. We thought it might be celebrities since they usually let people into the kitchen, at least for a peek.

Enjoy yourselves! You're in for a real treat!

Prior answer is correct. You will spend ~ $400 for two.

They only have two seatings for each table each night, so it is hard to get in.

They do not have would you might think of as a normal menu. They have a 12 course tasting menu (small courses) and you can order either the vegetarian or the non-vegetarian tasting. Be sure to let the waiter choose your wine, they will pair it very well with each course.

Finally, it is hard to see the restaurant from the street on Armitage. It is very elegant and understated. The valet parking sign is about the only way to see it, unless you really know where to look.

If you cannot get into Trotter's some alternatives in the same price / quality range are:
Tru, Alinea, and Arun's. Arun's is Thai and is in an unusual neighborhood, but every bit as good (and expensive).

We got engaged there in 2000. The deal went like this...Meals are 5-7 courses. There was a vegetarian menu and a Grand non-veg menu. We took our menus home as a souvenier, Veg was $90/person. And non-veg was about $110/person. This did not include alcohol. There could be another menu--more ala carte---however I am not sure. The experience was wonderful. The restaurant is very quiet--like a library.

Call soon...it will take a month or two to get a reservation. And you may not even get the time you want. We had 9pm on a Tuesday evening. We also didn't get seated right away--which was making my husband nervous...as things were not going as he planned. I didn't think anything of it. Also, ask about seating location, they have a bunch of rooms. I think I heard once that you can ask to sit in the kitchen--which might be a big deal.

Charlie Trotters is one amazing restaurant. Its kind of an honor to eat there. The other other guy said, TRU is also an amazing restaurant. Get ready to spend the big bucks though, but it is really worth it. Also when you go there, get ready to be there for a while, its not a get you in get you out place. They take thier time in serving you which is perfect. I would say plan on being there for 3-4 hours, if not longer

Minimum $100/ person. If you opt for a tasting menu ( 8-12 courses) with wine, $200/person. TRU is another great option for a special occasion. An ex-girlfriend took me there for my birthday a few years ago and the bill was $400 and worth every penny (even if i had paid, which i didn't).

Dont know where you live, but Tallgrass in Lockport was just as good as Trotters and a little cheaper but with all the same types of dishes, rare ingredients and wonderful service. Got out of there for $275.00
