It's a challenge, but if you think you’ll be up to it, then best of luck. The best way to prepare yourself will be to focus on your studies (Marines are not idiots, they are expected to continually seek to improve themselves both physically & mentally), and start taking your physical fitness seriously. I can direct you to some websites that will help in your pre-training. It will not fully prepare you for boot camp or Marine Corps life, but it will give you a good foundation.
Ignore the naysayers. You have time to make a final decision.
You have family in the Corps, so talk to them,as well as a female recruiter. It's a slightly different experience for men & women inthe Corps, so a female Marine would be able to give you more specific answers than me.
Best of luck.

Being a Women Marine isn't quite the same as being a grunt. The Corps isn't nearly as willing to use their women in combat conditions. The powers to be know how hard it is on morale when a women gets wounded or killed, the guys have a real hard time with it, so they discourage it.
Those recruiters probably love you because you are cute as a bug in a rug, and at 15, you should be. But, that doesn't make you Rambo, so before you take the plunge, talk to a female recruiter and get the straight scoop on what your duties would be as a WM. After that, if you're still as determined to go in, then let that be your dream. Remember, you need to first finish high school, so keep that foremost in your mind. God Bless! Semper Fidelis!

Babygirl, if you're thinking of doing it to wear the uniform or to prove you can, then you need to think twice. And for the foolish one who said to wait until Bush is gone so there'll be no more war and you know you'll come home safe... Check your fire! You need to rethink your math and statistics. I lost more men in peacetime, than I ever did in war. Currently, we're losin an average of just under three men a day. More people die in traffic accidents here in a single day, than do the military in Iraq!
So Babygirl, have you thought about what MOS you'd like to go for? If you're gong to do this, then do it right and at least get into a field that carries over into the civilian market when you're done. Not much call for a tank driver or a cannon cocker in the civilian sect. Personally, I'd say, go to college an get your degree. Then, if you are still so compelled, do it, but at least you'd be an officer. And let's face it, officer's lives are far better than that of the enlisted. Better pay, better quarters, better chance for employment after the fact. Go for broke little lady. Go for broke. Improvise, adapt and overcome!

This sounds like a plan to me. I had a friend in the Army who joined Airborne because her brothers were chicken and she wanted to keep family tradition alive. She was on the first plane going to the war in Grenada and parachuted out with all the guys. She later said that she really felt women should not be in the military - but so what - she loved it and made it her career.

If that's what you want to do in 3 years when you're 18 then do it. Do what's in your heart. If you have 2 brothers in the marines then you are very clear on what's involved, so you're going in with a good idea of what's ahead.

why would you care what we think? we dont know you. But seriously, if you believe it is a good idea and you have seriously thought about what your life will be like then go ahead, we always need people to protect our country. you have some time to think about it further, talk more to the recruiters, maybe get one of your brothers to do a short drill for you to get a feel of what the marine life will be like. best of luck to you :)
