Explain to her how you can set your profile on private and require your last name or e-mail address to be typed in before someone can even ask to be your friend on myspace (or see it). Also, if anyone ever does send you a message that's inappropriate, show her how you can report them to Myspace. Then, if she's still skeptical, i suggest (as bad as this may sound) offering to let her check it herself every once in awhile to see that you're handling the situation in a mature way. One last thing, Myspace asks for your birthdate, location, and other personal information. However, you can choose not to show this on your profile (many people just make up a place when asked for their location) so none of your personal information is viewable.
However, if you're under 14, it's illegal to have one anyway (not accusing you...i just don't know)

so i know you dont know this yet but there are precautions on myspace. i have a myspace and its good for me. my mother hates me having a myspace but i went through the whole thing with her once i got myself setup. there are account settings on myspace that allow only your friends to look at your profile. and only friends to look at blogs and coomments and pictures. there are also friend requests that require the person who wants you as a friend to type in your last name or your email. i have a private profile and only my friends can view all of my stuff. if your mom does let you have a myspace then you should do all of those things to keep her happy. && if you do eventually get a myspace i suggest you dont add people with no pictures unless you are CERTAIN to who they are. they could be a predator.

Why dont you tell your mom that you wont put any provocative pictures on the myspace. Also tell her that you will block your myspace, meaning that only someone who you accept can view your myspace.
hope this helped
good luck

THE GIRL FROM USA MET A GUY FROM ISRAEL AND GOT ON A PLANE AND WAS FINALLY TRACKED. HAVING A MYSPACE REQUIRES YOU TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND A LOT OF POEPLE HAVE A LOT OF ADULT CONTENT ON THEM. I HAVE ONE AND I'M A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR PART TIME AND NANNY AND I SEE STUFF THAT'S QUESTIONABLE. SHE IS RIGHT. BUT.....IF YOU WANT ONE , LET HER GO ON WITH YOU. LET HER SEE WHAT YOUR DOING, I TELL KIDS ..AS LONG AS YOU COMMUNICATE WITH YOU PARENTS AND MEET HALFWAY.. YOU WILL HAVE RESPECT AND TRUST. ASK HER AND ALLOW HER TO SEE THAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE AND WHOYOU CHAT WITHTOO. YOU CAME FROM HER AND SHE WOULD DIE IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO YOU SO BE CAREFUL.

tell her she can have your username and password for viewing only (if she impersonates you, that would be bad). that should alleviate her fears...
