I would think you would have to enroll in the polic academy in your state or write to them to see what they say.

I think your desire to help law enforcement in a field that you enjoy is admirable. But before you begin your journey you should get all the background neccessary.
There are only a handful of certified trainers in the world who are certified to train police officers and their k-9 partners. The agency I work for happens to be lucky enough to have one of these guys employed.
Our officer began when he was 18 while in the Air Force, he has over 20 years experience with k-9's and holds an international certificate to train k-9's. The process is very involved and takes decades of experience to be qualified. Forgive me for forgetting what the name is of the international society that provides this certification.
But I do remember about 7 years ago when he went to test for this certification that he was in Germany for about three months during the process.
My best advice is to contact someone who already holds this certification and find out what the steps are. Good luck.

You can look up your local police website if not the town you live in surely a county website an they will have information about joining the police force and such I would recommend that you look that website up an somehow contact someone at the police department in that field and relay your questions to them they should be able to help you.

The best one in the world is just south of Dyer Indiana, I always would watch them train those dogs in amazement. Rotts, pits , Shepard's all kinds. Look for them.
