Provided it is let out enough there is no reason not to leave a full water bowl available for a dogs use at all times.

Fresh and clean water should always be available to your dog. However your question seems to indicate that this is a new behavior?
If increased thirst is the reason for your inquiry, you should take your dog to a veterinarian to be checked as soon as possible. Diseases such as diabetes as well as Cushing's can cause such changes in water intake.

Being as its a big dog, and its winter, they need lots of water. My Giant Scnauzers drink tons of water in the winter due to the dry air.

as much as it needs, always have fresh water available however you need to make sure its still urinating, if its not then something is wrong, if this happens or u notice anything weird with the urine like blood in it take it to the vet it may have eaten or swallowed something that has got stuck.
