Apply the principle that Paul used about eating meat that had been offered to idols: if it's a sin to you, it's a sin. If it makes someone else fall, don't do it. Also, if God tells you personally not to do it, it is sin to do it.

Why is smoking a sin? “Sin is a breaking of [God’s] law.” (1 John 3:4, Today’s English Version) One of God’s laws is: “You must love your neighbor as yourself.” (Jas. 2:8) Smoking infringes on the rights of others, and may actually cause them physical damage. The nicotine in tobacco also acts as a drug, dulling the smoker’s appreciation of the Creator and His purposes. He becomes a slave to this unclean habit. (Compare Romans 6:6; 2 Corinthians 7:1.) Smoking is a sin.

The bible stated that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not perfect in the eyes of God.and as a human(sinful nature) we made mistakes.Smoking is not really a sin but excessive intake of cigarette is dangerous to our health.Smoking cocaine or marijuana is bad to our body and can harm or even kill us.You know that smoking is harmful to your health. As a christian we should not do it specially infront of unbelievers.Don't be a stumbling block to them.God is a merciful God and His grace is sufficient. The Holy Spirit will convict us....and guide us to the right path.Sanctification is a process....we can't change a person overnight. We need to trust and pray to God to help us remove such things that can defile our body.

No smoking is not a sin it is just stupid. It is harmful to your body an to others in your smoking environment. Only an idiot smokes. I could understand people smoking back before my time When there wasn't a movie made without the leading actor smoking. When even Presidents smoked, but now when everyone knows without a doubt how it kills. Only an idiot continues to smoke.

Well not really. We are supposed to treat our body as a temple. In that case it could be. You could also say that if you are addicted to cigarettes that you love that habit more than the Lord. That's ify. My step-father smoked for 40 years and died 2 years ago of Lung Cancer. So it isn't a great habit. Those little grey areas, you must decide. Do you feel like it is a sin? If you do then stop doing it. :-)

We Are taught in the bible that our body is like a temple and should be treated as such. Would you do something to a temple that could eventually cause its destruction?God doesn't want us to get cancer or some form of lung decease. Satan would like to see us get sick. Satan wants to break down your temple. Is doing something Satan wants you to do a sin?We have the ten commandments as a guideline for life in general but we all have an inward sense of right and wrong regardless of our religious beliefs.

The apostle Paul said that you are not supposed to do anything that destroys your body, because your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit that belongs to God. Paul also said that it was not God's will that you be "enslaved" (addicted) to anything.
Since tobacco is both harmful and addictive, with no beneficial results what-so-ever, them it is assumed to be a sin by many Christians.

Yes unhealthy addictions are looked at as sin. Like drunkeness, and drugs. Because they alter the brain, and destory the body. Killing is wrong, and you are slowly killing yourself, and also damaging others by second hand smoke.

A sin is Anything that cuts you off or slows down the force of the Spirit of Gods guidance in you..simple. you have to figure out if something you do interferes with the flow of the holy spirit of Gods influence in your life.

But boy oh boy have I made my mistakes in this life.

its not necessarily a sin. it says in the bible your body is a temple and you should not harm your temple. but god forgives and in this day and time the world has gotten so bad that i think god could even understand having a cig or two. but it does cause cancer so you should try to stop.
