When I was in the hospital with my dughter they gave me tylenol 3. Had a bad reaction but didn't put 2+2 together. It wasn't until I had an abssessed tooth and the Doctor gave me some emtec to take that I realized I was allergic to codeine. Was literally crawling to the bathroom to dry heave. Stopped taking the pills and I got better. That's how I discovered I was allergic. With no help from the Doctors. They do have a test you can take.

Take it and see what happens? Actually, if you are concerned you might be allergic before you take it, call your doctor and ask him/her what to do. If you are already having symptoms that you think might be a allergic reaction, call the doc for that, too. We here on Yahoo! Answers typically aren't doctors and have no clue what to do.

If you have reason to believe you're allergic to something, then stay away from it. The medical community use to have a test for antibiotic allergy but they discontinued using the test cause they killed to many patients.
