I have been getting very little sleep for the past few months. I mean, I get about 2, maybe 3 hours every night. This is due to procrastination from all the homework I get from school. I feel like I'm on drugs sometimes, is that normal?? I've been gettin heachaches, which I have never in my life gotten before, and I am hallucinating a lot. I see things in corners and things pass by. I was told that when you don't get sleep, you're like this. But, also when people wake me up in the morning, they say I look like I'm on drugs-. Do you think sleep deprivation is linked with drugs? I have never taken illicit drugs, just telling you. I feel like I'm losing my mind!! Such painful tension headaches .. . :(

Well my advice would be,

1) try not to procrastinate.
2) drink warm milk or chamomile tea before bed and relax
3) take melatonin, you can buy this at a natural food store, it is a natural chemical releasing lozenge. It will help you sleep. (don't use these all the time, take them only when you need them)
4) yes, not getting enough sleep reduces your mental clarity by up to 40%, and some make think your on drugs, but this is just the way your brain is reacting to sleep deprivation.

Well, step 1 would be to stop procrastinating... get the homework done, and that will be off your mind. Why are you procrastinating? Are you spending too much time just hanging out with freinds? Hit the books for a week or two, and get that behind you.

If you're not taking drugs, then the sleep deprivation is not related to drugs. I know you said you don't do drugs. Doing drugs is dumb, with or without sleep.

If this becomes a big problem, see your doctor. You need to get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can cause memory and learning problems. You'll just get worse without sleep. Don't start taking sleeping pills. That can become addictive, and you'll be in a really bad spot. Again, see your doctor if you can't fix this yourself in the next week or two.

Sleep deprivation can cause psychosis. I know of a psych student who deliberately induced psychosis by not allowing himself to sleep. The good news is, it will probably go away if you start taking care of yourself, as long as you do it right away. Sometimes you have to put school and everything else on the backburner to keep yourself healthy..and for God's sake, this is one of those times. Take a week or two away from everything, get caught up on sleep and see a doctor. Then, when you are ready to go back, you have to make some lifestyle adjustments. You have to get on a sleep schedule and maybe not spread yourself so thin.

I went thru the same thing, it's stress. Your mind races, won't settle down and can't sleep. Get your homework done, if not it will continue to take a toll on your body. I finally had to go to the DR. for treatment, which after trying everything else, did work. Homework done first so you don't worry, drugs secoond. If you don't get relief in a few weeks or less, seek medical care.
Good Luck

How approximately this? stay conscious truly of going to sleep and lose sooner or later to lethargy, then mattress at 10 pm and set your alarm for six am. 8 hours sleep with out drugs. in case you're looking it complicated to fall asleep then do a version of the sheep leaping a fence trick. Visualize the huge form one hundred in very ornate script, then ninety 9, ninety 8,.. each and every time drawing the numbers on your ideas very precisely. you will no longer attain 0 and could no longer remember the huge form you dropped off on. evening.... There's just one solution to this -- stop procrastinating and get more sleep. Sleep deprivation can do all you described and more. It can affect your immune system and make you more susceptible to illness. If they haven't already, your grades will probably suffer as you become less capable of concentrating during classes and exams. If you need to, see a counselor about developing better study habits.

I am an RN (Registered Nurse) at the city hospital. What it sounds like to me, is that you're experiencing REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement). What this is, is when you try to sleep, it doesnt mean that your eves are constantly trying to move, but it is a constant awareness of everything around you...making it harder for you to try and sleep. It could also be the fact of stress that you're recieving from school/homework. 78% of all illness and disease is dirived from stress. What you need to do, is try and find time to relax, and dont try and please everybody, right now your favorite word should be, "no." Just let them know, that you're to busy for whatever it is. I wish you luck. And hope I was of some help.
