A friend has a 93 Dodge Stealth that was purchased new from a dealership and NEVER been involved in a serious accident. Before you define this type of title, I know where it comes from. 75% damage and a cost saver for the insurance companies.

My friend is driving around with '93 tags, is current with the license fees and emissions checks.

She has been to DMV 100 times and they are NO help. Her insurance is with AAA and she has gotten nothing but the run around.

She was in a parking lot and returned to her car to find a cop WAITING for her. He gave her a ticket and impounded her car. About $350 later she got car back and that doesn't include the ticket.

Anyone have any ideas? It seems like somebody hit the wrong key at the DMV or AAA and won't stand up for their mistake. The cop is a whole different issue. It seems like he did the deal because he could.

It just seems NUTS that everything is in order and NEVER a "TOTAL" accident and this crap is still happening.

If your friend is "driving around with 93 tags" in 2007, it's no wonder she is getting tickets.

Just because a car was bought from a dealership doesn't mean it was never in an accident. Brand new cars are sometimes wrecked in transit to the dealer and issued a salvage title.

In fact, I know where a brand new Ford Mustang is sitting waiting for insurance to look at that was totaled on the way to the dealer.

If it has a salvage title now, it probably did when she bought it new. If she is current with her license fees, why does she still have a 93 tag on it?

You seem to be leaving something out here. What is the real story, starting with what the ticket was for and why it was impounded.

You've talking about several issues, none of which applies to each other.

A vehicle is a total loss when the cost of repairs exceeds the actual cash value of the vehicle; insurance companies do this all the time--it's in her AAA policy, it's in EVERY insurance policy, and they don't pretend to hide it. Additionally, if the loss happened in a state like Nevada, where the law mandates a vehicle be totaled when the cost of repairs exceed 65% of the actual cash value, less the cost of paint....too bad for your friend...there's nothing AAA can do about that, they have to comply with the law, as does your friend. It's a pretty simple process and if she can't, or won't, understand what's going on, or like it for that matter...I don't know what to tell ya. What I can tell you is she just needs to get over it, go get a new car, and resolve the claim if she's holding it up. No mistake has been, at either the DMV or at AAA.

Could very well be a DMV mistake. Can you do a title search on the car? Go to car-history-reports.com (free) you can see if there is some weird stuff going on with the title number.

ALSO, call her insurance co and see what is up. If there was something weird with the truck, they would have a record of it.

Cops love the 'easy' tickets. They hide from real crime, at least the ones here do!

Are you asking about the car or about the tags on the license?

Did you get the ticket because you still have 1993 tabs on your plates?
