They want his middle name to be my dads name which is Daniel. We are naming my son Dawson which is my boyfriends middle name. I DO NOT LIKE how Dawson Daniel sounds. I prefer Dawson Hunter. My mom says well Dawson is his side of the family why not have the middle name our side of the family. Is it wrong if i do not have a name from my side of the family??

Tell them they got to name you now it's your turn to name your child. By all means name your son what you want to. If you are worried about hurt feelings just explain to your mom it is not intentional and you will use a family name with the next child (whether it's a lie or not it will help to comfort her). Congrats on the soon to be Baby!!! Anyways two D's in a row doesn't sound nice, Dawson Hunter is very nice name!

well I do like the sound of it. You have a boyfriend & a husband??? At least your dad respected yer mom enough to ................ There is a lot to be said for tradition. Your dad wants to keep the family name going. Your boyfriend doesn't seem to care about your name, so why not follow the ritual that matters to those who care??? By the way, what will Dawson be hunting??? oh aren't I mean- not as mean as 4th graders!!

No, you can do whatever you want, however I find the sound of Dawson Daniel ...... quite nice. It has a nice flow to it. But that's my taste and I would name him like that. You don't mind naming the boy after your boyfriend but don't want to name it after a man who raised you. I do not understand that. I could see your point if he had a strange name like Otto, August etc, but Daniel is a nice name.

Dawson Hunter is nice
To keep your parents happy, I see you can do two things
1. Look at your dad's middle name
2. Tell them that the next child will be named after your side of the family. That can include brothers, sisters, your grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Parents
This just came to me, my brother in law middle name is his mother maiden name
Good luck

hi,
this is hard for your mom ans dad because you have his family last name, and they just want you to keep some part of your family by naming the child Daniel. a way to solve this is to tell them that you will name the next one after Daniel. that might help.

Tell her that maybe you will use it with the next child. It is up to you and your husband to choose a name, not your parents. Now it's your turn.

Its your baby do what you want. Firmly tell them you have decided on a name and there is no more to discuss. And dont discuss it. If they bring it over tell them the name has been decided on and thats it.

No, it's not wrong. Just be direct, tell them you'll use the name you want, and they shouldn't bring it up again.
