It's on a special diet, but still occasionally has diarrhea. Vet says could grow out of it or need special diet & meds forever.

No parasites? Hmm. Could be as simple as a food allergy, some dogs are allergic to the corn that is in dog food, but if you got that covered, are you feeding him Iams with lamb and rice? Hmm, could be some parasite that they didn't find yet too. Is the dog still having diarrhea while on the meds? If so maybe they aren't helping.

bulldogs get diarrhea pretty easily. if ours gets into anything or has ANY change in his diet he gets it. If he is actually losing control of bowel and bladder that sounds more behavioral to me. Man, Rufus was tough to train, and i am convinced he is a smart bulldog. That just is not really saying much. They are great dogs, just not the brightest bulbs in the box =)

Our's is also really skittish about weird stuff so sometimes he loses control, especially if he is excited.

Several viruses can cause that. I would actually take it for a second opinion.
