We have a yellow lab that is currently living outside, and I hate it. It's so cold out there for him and he is lonely. We tried bringing him in but my mom just kept sneezing, and where she has asthma, she's had to use her inhaler a couple of times where normally, she hasn't used it in months, so they sent my dog packing back outside for her health.
We wish he could come inside, but mom's health is most important. And we think it's his dander thats causing her to do this.
Is there anyway she can get some medicine for this or we can get rid of his dander?
We have another dog, that's a chihuahua multese mix and she isn't allergic to him, but I don't understand why. Is it because he's been inside so much and has had so many baths? Should we give the outside dog a lot of baths to make it go away? Please help. And don't say "Give him away" because we love him a lot and spend lots of time with him when it's warm, and we'd like to when it's cold too.

well, you can't completely get rid of it, but you can take some preventative measures.

First, your mom can get allergy shots or take allergy medication (prescribed or over the counter). Also, the more you're exposed the more of an immunity you build. I was allergic to my cat when I first got him (I also have asthma), but over time it got better, and a good friend of mine is extremely allergic to cats, but the more he comes over the less his allergies effect him (until he's gone for awhile and comes back.. then he has to start over).

Second, you need to brush your dog daily. This will remove unwanted hair which can get on furniture/carpet, etc. Baths weekly or months are good, too. There are also foods out there that will reduce shedding, and I think there are also shampoos that do that.

Third, make sure you're vacuuming furniture, etc. every day. Petsmart has a product called Vac-away. Its a spray meant to remove static from pet hair so it can be vacuumed off of furniture easily (I swear by this stuff, it's really effective). You can also by Fabreeze allergen reducer, which I have also found to be effective.

It will take time (weeks or even months) and your mom is going to feel crappy for awhile, but if you are all willing to try to keep up with it then it's worth a shot.

Serious problem-
You can't reduce the dander that type of dog has, so sorry.

The lab is a water dog with different fur textures and skin conditions than a chihuahua. The denser fur and is the issue.

Unless you wash him weekly and brush him out every day , and even that may not work. He is okay outside, build him a house, run an electric cord and "treble light" for the colder nights, for playing get a hanging ball for him to play with.

These are sport dogs and yes he is lonely, but they love to run and play. Feed him a bit more food and he will get a beautiful winter coat. All my dogs are outside, they have long hair and I have a similar breathing condition. My dogs are 10 and 14 and don't plan to get rid of them, they had to adjust like I did.

There are several products that help moisturize the skin and reduce dander. You can try Linotone (available from most pet supply stores or catalogs.) It's rich in Omega-3 and other oils that are good for your dog. We had a black lab that (even living indoors!) had the same problem all winter long. The Linotone worked real well. You can also use a little Wheat Germ oil in his food. Anything that will increase th eoils in his skin will also help your Mom. (Even though I'm in my own house now, I go through this every time my mother comes for a visit!)

You can't get rid of his dander. It's his dead skin and stuff that is always going to flake off. The best you can do is get a really good vacuum cleaner and clean as best you can.

Get rid of any carpets and things that can catch dust and dander if you can. It's impossible to do that unless you do what my dad did for me when I was little. Everything was vinyl so it could be cleaned and there were no carpets. Sheets and bedding were washed pretty often.
An air purifier might help some too. Good luck.

hire a cleansing group, and have them wipe dopwn each and each of the partitions with a moist textile - the dander would have caught to each thing, and you may desire to do a huge cleansing. purely buckets of water and sparkling rags are all you will prefer - purely sell off the buckets many times, get extra sparkling water. in case you have a HEPA vacuum purifier. which could circulate a protracted way in the direction of cleansing the air interior the homestead - no longer in basic terms vacuuming the rugs (this is truly useful to have somebody like Stanley Steemer are available and supply each thing which contain the upholstery a stable wash) - however the vacuum would be left working in a room for a whilst with a sparkling bag, and could help clear out the air. the secret's to have all of it finished on the comparable time, so it would not purely migrate from one section to a different - and have your infants take a heat, no longer warm, bathe while they get lower back from traveling their "grand canine" any extra, to do away with the allergens as quickly as achieveable. purely as an aside, this is truly useful to speak to their dermatologist approximately getting them on fish oil, in the event that they do no longer seem to be already. it may help immensely with making their bodies plenty extra impervious to allergens.

giving more baths especially at this time of year will cause even more dander (dry skin)
i know you dont want to but you need to think of your dog it isnt fair to keep him out in the cold alone you need to give him to a family that can take care of him properly..

If your mom is allergic she can get allergy shots. If you can see his dry flaky skin, take a teaspoon of olive oil and add it to his food every other day. Don't use too much or he'll get the poops. Also be careful what shampoo you use, don't over bathe him either, or he'll get dry skin. You could also take him to the groomers.
