My cat has a problem with a leaky butt. It does'nt happen constantly, but it is annoying because I am always checking her. Is there something I can give her. I really can't afford to take her to the vet right now. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What are you feeding her right now?

Definitely clean her dish! It should be cleaned daily, especially if she is on canned food. Is she spayed? If not, are you sure she is leaking from her anus? If you are not sure, be sure! If she is unspayed, she may have a uterine infection called pyometra, which will cause death if not treated ASAP. The options if it is from her anus is a bacterial infection in her intestinal tract, or the good bacteria has been killed off and she isn't digesting properly robbing her from vital nutrients, or she has an anal gland issue. Anyone one of these things definitely needs to be investigated by a vet for proper treatment after diagnosis. If the good gut bacteria has been killed off, then you can try using a probiotic. Sometimes the good bacteria in the gut is disrupted by age, which will cause loose stool to severe diarhea. Please see your vet first.

Leaky Butt. How technical. WHAT is leaking out of WHERE. No one can help you until you actually describe real symptoms. Here are some choices: diarrhea, pee, bloody mucus... Please be more specific if you want accurate help. You could at least give us a color description of the discharge. Is your cat female or male? spayed or neutered?

It's anal glands. If you do take her to the vet, he will squeeze them and expel the fluid. Really smelly stuff, but it saves your carpet.
I don't know what you can do on your own to help her out. If you know someone who is an assistant at a vets, they can do it also.
Good Luck trying to find a home remedy to this one!!
