Probably not. In order to file as head of household, you need to have a dependent. This dependent needs to be a US tax resident in order to qualify as your dependent. If your father in India is not a US tax resident by virtue of being a US citizen or green card holder, the only way he can be considered a US tax resident is if he lives in the US.

You are single. The only reason you would be filing Head of household would be if you were married and you and your spouse were living in separate locations. Also, if you claimed your father as a dependent even though he does not live with you, it is likely that the IRS took less out of your paycheck than they should have and you may very well owe Uncle Sam. Lastly, claiming Head of Household is a sure way to get noticed by the IRS for an impromtu audit. FYI, my father is an auditor for the IRS.

Head of household is single parent with children. Your dad doesn't count. Even if he lived with you. You send money out of the kindness of your heart, no tax deduction for that.

If your Dad is not a U.S. Citizen, then you can't claim him as a dependent and you can't claim head of household status.

Don't trust us, ask the IRS directly. It is better to ask the experts.
