This was one of the laws of the OT, having to do with what is clean meat and unclean meat.
Because Hogs are unclean animals, look at the slop that they wallow in, it is a breeding ground for germs.

I don't know if there's an explanation in the bible. But it's not hard to imagine a likely scenario -- Warm weather, no refrigeration, no sealed containers, insects, parasites, perhaps not enough fuel for through cooking....people get food poisoning, get sick, maybe some die. The powers that be decide that pork is what's NOT for dinner.

The laws given to the descendent of Jacob(Israel) included civil laws much as we have in the Dept. of Health. Without refrigeration, pork can be very dangerous. So God gave this as a civil law......not as a religious law.

I can't remember the exact passage i can tell the story.
I think someone was possessed by evil spirit and when Jesus delivered them He threw the spirit out from the person onto the passing pigs.
Hence some people say that pigs carry evil spirit. May be misinterpretation.

the torah or old testiment says not to eat pork the jews were told it was unclean and I am sure in the deserts it would be hard to use safly. put petter was shown after the assenion of Jesus that no food was unclean and he should eat with the gentiles what they ate not keep himself only with the (to) holy Jews.

Matthew 8:28
Jesus Heals Two Demon-Possessed Men
28 When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake in the land of the Gadarenes,* two men who were possessed by demons met him. They lived in a cemetery and were so dangerous that no one could go through that area. 29 They began screaming at him, "Why are you bothering us, Son of God? You have no right to torture us before God's appointed time!" 30 A large herd of pigs was feeding in the distance, 31 so the demons begged, "If you cast us out, send us into that herd of pigs."
32 "All right, go!" Jesus commanded them. So the demons came out of the men and entered the pigs, and the whole herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water. 33 The herdsmen fled to the nearby city, telling everyone what happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 The entire town came out to meet Jesus, but they begged him to go away and leave them alone.

No biblical story, just health codes. Pigs were very dirty animals, and so if you ate one, you had a good risk of getting a disease. Not much of a mystery really.

im not certain, but it has to do with the animals that have split hooves and chew cud, they are allowed to eat, but if they have split hooves and don't chew cud, they are not supposed to eat them. anyone who knows more on the subject correct me, but i'm pretty sure that is how it goes.

Obviously they had run across trichinosis and wanted to make sure no one else died a painful death and therefore created a religious taboo around it.
