I'm so sorry for your loss.
When I was in middle school my sisters and I went to a neighbor's house to hang out with our friends. It was the first time my sisters let me tag along with them. There were about 8 of us. We went into the basement and they made a home version of a ouija board by writing letters on paper and using a shot glass. I wouldn't play because at the time my family was Jehovah's Witness. My older sisters, though, had no qualms about rebelling. So I sat by and watched. None of us believed it was really working. It was like the commercials, you know..."you're moving it! no I'm not...you are!"
But then the shot glass started moving so quickly it appeared as though it was really moving on its own. Then it spelled out my name and said "get out". I yelled at my sister for trying to get me to leave by using the ouija board. Then things got a little weird.
My sister insisted she wasn't doing it. I didn't believe her a bit. She asked the "spirit" why it wanted me to leave. It spelled out "jehovah". Again....I wasn't buying it. I was so angry and was arguing with her when I looked over and noticed the girls who had their hands on the glass were starting to get freaked out. The glass was shaking...almost hopping on the board. The girls were so scared that they took their hands off of it. The glass sat there for a moment before it shot across the room.
Needless to say I left immediately.
After that my one sister and her friend were very intrigued by the whole thing. Almost every day after school they would get together and use the board. She would come home and tell me about all of the weird (and many times disturbing) things that were being spelled out by whatever it was that was communicating with them. I kept asking her to stop it because I was scared of what might happen. She just thought it was really cool. Then one day she came home really scared. I don't remember the details, but she never did it again.
I don't know what the truth is about spirits. I do know that my entire childhood was saturated with horror stories about satan and his demons.....but I don't know what to believe about the whole thing anymore. As far as the ouija board goes, it's just a poor idea altogether. I'd stay away from it personally. Whatever you hope to find in all likelihood will not be answered. And if it is answered, I would only expect lies or deception. I have never heard of anyone summoning a kind spirit through a ouija board. I don't think it's the proper forum for it at all.
Look into your heart. Pray for dreams that will heal your hurt. You don't have to be religious to pray. We are all connected. Your friend is in there somewhere.
Take care of yourself ~

The theory is that you are opening up a channel to the "great beyond" by placing your hand there, and you are giving whatever spirit happens to be nearby an opportunity to communicate with you. The problem is that if your loved one isn't hanging around at the time, you might just be letting an angry spirit communicate through you. So there are many mixed experiences. For some (suspicios) reason it doesn't work when you're doing it alone. Perhaps the doubt of each person is cancelled out by the hopes of the other. Or it's a bunch of bunk. It's worth a try though, as spirits can't do anything to hurt you if you stay calm.

Ouija boards do work if you believe they will, but you must be extremely careful when using them. Only ask for good, willing spirits, and ALWAYS say goodbye at the end of the session. (Otherwise they'll be following you around). You may not be able to contact a specific person though, there's many spirits that want to talk, and they don't really believe in sharing the board. Be patient if you do attempt it...if you're not experienced with using the board, it will be a slow process, and remember that you might be talking to several spirits at once, not just the one you want to. Use your best judgement. If you really don't want to talk to several spirits, don't attempt it. What I know is just from personal experience, you can make your own opinion. Ouija Boards are the manholes to the supernatural sewers. Don't mess with it, you could get a lot of crap, and meet a few monsters too, and the game stinks in the end. It's like going to a prison dating site and saying you're young hot and available - creeps will line up to mess with you. Add to it that the manufacturer is selling it as a game, be prepared for otherside entities to play with your head. Very real, very risky.

Cliffy says: Ouija boards do not let you converse or correspond to persons in the hereafter. That is all trot a drivel. But they have caused DEMON POSSES ION. Which is what the movie the Exorcist is actually based on. Be careful , what you dredge up with those things it may not be very nice!!!!

No they don't. If she is dead, she's fine, cuz nothing is happening. She's dead. So you can't contact her. You can't contact her because she's you know, dead. I am not saying this to be mean, I understand, I recently lost a loved one too, and it sucks to think they are really gone forever. I understand, but she is dead and you need to live. Ouija boards don't work even if the dead could talk.

Not to sound cold or anything, but she doesn't exist right now. There's nothing or no one to contact. It baffles me where people get this idea that there is some sort of separate living organism inside of us and when "we" die, it goes on to a "spirit realm" or whatnot. People even say the Bible teaches this but it doesn't! If you read enough of it you'd see! The bible says when you're gone- that's it! You're gone! Unless God sees fit to resurrect you!

it is a game board made by a game company...Parker Brothers....
it is meaningless and "works" when people conciously or subconsiously move the planchette to spell out specific things and give specific answers...
it has never held up under scientific scrutiny....

First of all, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss. But you don't have to worry about someone after they are dead, sweetie. She's got nothing else to worry about ... her body and mind are at rest. Honor her memory, but don't be concerned about her well-being.

Ouija boards work as much as praying and going to church, which is not at all. The Ouija board is as accurate as the bible, obviously not at all. I hope that you are getting what I am saying. It is unfortunate that your friend passed away, but if there is an after-life, then they have never succeeded in talking back, ever.
