Through the pursuit of a belief in one god, wars have been fought, people burned as witches and so called non believers murdered. If there really was just one god, would he force people to follow him. I'm a believer in the Asatru myself which is one such religion stamped out by monotheism. What are your thoughts on this?

Oh and Loki, Asatru WAS eradicated in the late 900's early1000's and has only recently re-surfaced due to many historical studies and archaeological finds.

Well...it's complex. What we view as "religious wars" throughout history are probably more worldly related in their roots. While religion is often the purpose given for violent actions ("Our God says that this land is ours" "No, this land was given to us by OUR gods!") It really tends to be about much more human things like greed, or vengence (My guess that vengence was mixed in with the religious fervor of the witch hunts) or any number of any, much less divine, purposes. Religion is just a "good" excuse used by those who would lead people into these wars ("We must do it for the glory of our religion!")

Whether it's the pursuit of 1 god, 5 gods or a thousand gods it doesn't really matter, it boils down to one person or group trying to force another to believe as they believe, as a Christian I obviously have no problem telling people what I believe but it is then their choice how they respond. I can't force anyone and to attempt to do so is wrong.
Whilst there may have been some vastly misguided zealots in the past or even present who would attempt such things, if you look behind the scenes of history, there you can usually find some underlying reason, money, power etc. all of which contradicts what the Bible teaches.
If God is God then He would have no problem forcing the whole world to follow Him without the help of man, but He wants us to choose to follow Him.

Who Loves all of His creation, Who has spoken & foretold the peoples ahead, and it has got here approximately. Has Spoken, that each and each knee shall bow & confess Jesus Christ is Lord.He speaks & His be conscious is accompliced. possibly you're refering to the warfare after the 1000 3 hundred and sixty 5 days reign of Christ, while devil & his angels are destroyed. Who via the way comprehend there's a God. i think of you have some expertise of the certainty and don't take it sluggish to verify who's the certainty, the way, The existence....Me Brainwashed, no i've got had encounters with the residing God & a relationship with Him, And it brings a Peace of strategies, you won't be able to clarify, purely adventure.....and that i would not have ignored for the worldwide. i'm hoping sooner or later you too will adventure & comprehend that's Jesus and not utilising a single doubt. you will by no potential have the potential returned to assert...there is no God. by no potential!

Well there were wars or struggles between peoples before monotheism I would imagine possibly on a smaller scale as the world was largely underpopulated. The desire for power or land or resources would seem to be more the cause of wars.

From a historical point of view, No "god" would not force people to believe him because "he" believes that people have free will and that includes free will to believe in god or not.
Your other points are right on, there are been and will be fighting regarding religion forever. Catholics as a majority in the past were very violent in thier way of preaching and expressing how other people should believe. BUT it wasn't just monotheism againt polytheism, there is also mono against mono and poly versus poly. A very good example of this is the Christians vs. the Muslims they both only believe in One "god" but yet they continue to fight.
I personally think that many people are myopic to other religions and they aren't their religion then it must be wrong. Look at christians vs. Wiccas. Christians believe that Wiccians believe in satan which is just simply not true. Pagans are blocked together as satan worshippers which again is majorly not true. I believe in nature and I have had people make fun of me because I believe in mother nature. There are monotheists who do not preach and my best friend is a diehard catholic but she lets me do my thing and i let her do hers. It is all about being openminded.

No, it was not religion that caused the wars. It was the political party system of those days. Rulers used religion/God as a political tool. In some cases this still happens in some parts of the world.

Ja, makes sense. People get some weird ideas when religion is the game.
I've been reading some asatru stuff myself!
Hey, check out the band falkenbach from germany. It's the theme music for all that is asatru. Awesome stuff!

I think it's because there are so many different versions of one God, and each group thinks that only they are right. It doesn't make sense to me to be fighting over whose version of God is correct.

If your religion is still in existence then it wasn't "stamped" out. I think you are generalizing to the point of hysteria and gross inaccuracy.
I think it's "cute" that you have found some obscure religion to flaunt and shock your parents with. I'll bet it will impress the high school girls (and maybe some college freshmen). How very sad that those "peaceful" vikings were attacked.
