Popular culture is creating starvation for many things.
Popular culture creates and feeds a hunger for sinfulness including:
+ Lust (inappropriate desire)
+ Gluttony (over-indulgence)
+ Greed (avarice)
+ Sloth (laziness)
+ Wrath (anger)
+ Envy (jealousy)
+ Pride (vanity)
Popular culture truly starves people for the real nourishment of virtues including:
+ Chastity (purity)
+ Moderation (self-restraint)
+ Generosity (vigilance)
+ Zeal (enthusiasm)
+ Meekness (composure)
+ Charity (giving)
+ Humility (humbleness)
With love in Christ.

I think not because in that kind of society the people won't generally care. Isn't that tragic? Especially if it used to be a "faith based" ideology? This is even truer for more affluent societies where people in general are too self centered.
Only in personal or pandemic tragedy people are knocked off the center and they can see the starved condition they are in. They have a choice then to either remedy that situation by reestablishing faith in its center place or to ignore it and become indifferent to its soulless consequence. If faith is reestablished caring and recognizing individuals, other than self will become the norm again. Because their renewed relationship with God is reunited with God's compassion and concern for man.

The american dream, everyone seeks it if they know it or not. As we seek more recognition we will further our species goal of survival, probably by living on other planets. So yes, it wil increase but it will not be a starvation as any singles success will lead to all our successes. Look at all the great inventors of the past and present and take comfort in the things to be in the future. Less disease, longer life, higher standard of living, etc.
