Personally, I don't think we need it at all ~ we should have unlimited freedom in our action and speech in public!

Why do you think? Please don't come up with stupid answers unless you want to live in a life-threatening life... lol ~ just kidding! ;)

What exactly do you mean by "political corectness"? Is this some sort of legal doctrine that's been forced upon us by the tyrants in Washington, D.C.?

The way many people talk about it, they act like "political correctness" is some evil law enacted upon the nation while we wer sleeping at the wheel...

"PC" is just a boogey-man (hiding under your bed right next to the war on Christmas) being used liberally and effectively by talk show radio hosts and political bloggers to keep people ignorant and paranoid about an enemy that does not exist.

If by "political corectness" you mean should we have to watch what we say and who we say it to: yes, we should. We have the rights of free speech, but that doesn't mean we have the right to denigrate others because they're different than you or me.

You can speak your mind (shoot from the hip, as someone so appropriately said), but you should be prepared to get shot back when you speak out of ignorance, hate, or prejudice. It's that simple. Whether you like it or not it's part of the social contract.

The people who cry foul on "PC" are the people who liked it better when you could call a spade a spade and get slapped on the back for it... It's a new world, Jim Crow. Get used to it.

The unfortunate thing is that political correctness has replaced logic and good old common sense. We are vehemently told that we have freedom of choice while being constantly admonished when we dare employ that freedom freely. Do we or don't we? Can we or can't we? Should we or shouldn't we? Are we coming or going? Did I or didn't I? Did they or didn't they? Was it or wasn't it? No wonder there is an increase in psychotic behaviour, drug intake and paranoia. Everybody is so busy covering their own a** that we have forgotten how spontaneity feels. Today is spent covering up yesterdays politically incorrect potential problem areas and searching for a scapegoat. No wonder time seems to be sprinting in a marathon! We are loosing hours to the tune of days and then years. God have mercy on you should you decide to say what you mean and mean what you say! One word...irony.

Political correctness came about when the realization that stereotypes and ignorance about other races, cultures and gender were dividing people from understanding one another. Also, in the workplace and in other public forums race and gender issues needed to be met with a common approach as to keep people from imposing lawsuits and what not. Today political correctness is used by the right to attack the ideology of the left. In some ways it does the opposite of bridging the gap between races and gender it creates less understanding of one another. But many people forget that policies and practices like political correctness and affirmative action would not exist if women and blacks in the country were not written out of history. It wasn't until the true freedom fighters in the 60's and the 70's that brought "political correct" studies like Women Studies and African American history courses to the U.S collage curriculum was there any recognition of these voices in the American HIStory. So yes we needed it, now what we need is a whole lot more.

Ask a deaf person. There are only a finite number of ways you can hold your hands to mean certain things. Sign language is an extremely politically incorrect one because they cannot afford to create an entirely new vocabulary every time someone decides a word is offensive.

No, people shouldn't have to walk on egg shells in fear that they might offend someone. It's life, you're bound to get offended more than several times, I certainly have in the past. People just need to learn to shake it off, and be less thin skinned about it.

Just to be clear words like the N-word, are derogatory and mean and don't fall in polical correctness because they and any switching of words to convey what they mean should never be said or directed at anyone.

Nobody is forcing you to be political correct unless you work in a workplace, then you have no choice but follow their rules of PC. The constitution protects your rights of free speech outside the workplace but not inside of it. So unless you can somehow convince you employer not to be so PC you'll have to suck it up at work or get fired.

I think its an excuse for forgetting plain good manners. I think we need free speech and determination to strip the offensive words of their offense. I called my band students nerds for uears and finally they had their band t-shirts printed "Its a nerd thing, you wouldn't understand'. If I was a black girl, I'd wear T-shirts embroidered with sequins spelling out the N word...not to offend, to rob the offenders of their abilit to hurt.

Political correctness strips people of the right to freedom of speech and is taken totaly out of context by anyone whom wants something to complain about. Wendy houses are now called play houses for fear of them being seen as sexist. ba ba black sheep is now no more sheep sheep because its seen as racist.

PC has gone crazy and soon we wont be able to speak
