Don't bother making yourself approachable, if you're interested approach him with a simple hi im ... is plenty. Women get hit on way more frequently than men do so it takes more to catch their interest. Guys are a lot more impressed with the effort than whats said. Even if you don't know what to say after the hi im... just go, guys will take the next step and keep the conversation going. In making the approach you also get to target whomever catches your interest instead of trying to send signals or whatever in their general direction and hoping they land cause that's the longer least successful route. I know that well cause my female friends tell me all the time that so and so was flirting with me or that girl has been looking at me or doing something to show interest etc and im just oblivious to signs unless im hit over the head with them and most guys are as well. If someone liked me i'd rather them come right up and say Hi.

HELLO it's a singles dance everyone is there for the same thing to find a friend. So just swallow your pride and approach him before you miss out on a good thing.

If you can't muster up enough courage to walk up the them and say "Hi, I just love this song, lets dance."
Then stay within his line of sight and make eye contact and smile.
To improve your chances, put on your nicest dress, fix your hair, lipstick, perfume, and anything else that will have your self-esteem as high as possible.
If you are REALLY shy and you are NOT driving, Have a drink when you get to the club. Now, I'm not saying drink till your drunk. But, a shy guy like myself used courage-in-a-bottle plenty of times.
Last, you girls have it easy anyways. All the clubs I go to (used to go to...) there are 2 guys to every 1 girl. It's only a matter of time before someone asks you to dance.

Geeee I wish I could find a over 40 singles dance. I would just be myself and go up to them and talk with them.Or flirt with them.Depending if I'm attracted to them.Just be yourself.We're to old to be playing games.hehehe Good luck

just say hi...He will like that you are not shy and that you can take what you want that shows confidence on you...I am 36 I wish I know were is a dance over 30...will be fun
