I totally know what you mean! And man, it makes me angry. My parents both grew up in Pakistan, and of course they got school off there. But here in the USA, I have to take days of school off! I am really angry, because it ruins my perfect attendence record! And I definately cannot go to school on Eid. No way.
I mean, people get two whole weeks off for Christmas! Not to mention Easter falls on a Sunday everytime. Channuka too... get off for that (included in the Christmas break), also Kwanzaa! Islam is the second largest religion in the world! Two days off of a year is NOT THAT MUCH TO ASK! Just on Eid!
I go to a public school, too. All kinds of holidays. Not a Catholic school or ANYTHING like that!!

At this point, it's all politics and the fact that we as Muslims aren't exactly what one would call a majority. I'm guessing that this is partially because Eid is on a different day each year (and the Pakistanis and Saudis are constantly fighting over which date is more correct) and partially because due to many factors, a lot of people dislike Muslims and since Jewish people tend to have more clout, people will sooner follow their lead. Besides, there are many, many, many different religions in America. Can you imagine, places being closed for every single holiday (because they are of equal importance to more than one person)? Everything would be closed, all the time. Politics, of course, and the fact that many people would much rather see Islam as terrorism and Ramadan as anorexia will keep Eid out of being a holiday for quite some time, and while Jews are a tiny minority they have more charisma in the world, so we don't go to school on their holidays. It's all in the struggle to be politically correct.

The US and most of the western hemisphere don't celebrate other cultures. I guess it goes against their stiff-necked christian principles. So much for celebrating diversity!
I'm lucky though. In Trinidad, where I live we celebrate Eid ul Fitr with muslims, and also other things such as Divali (Hindus), Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day, Emancipation Day (when slavery was abolished), Arrival Day (when the first east indians arrived), etc, as well as the usual Christian holidays like Christmas, Good Friday, Easter etc and some non - religious holidays. A big problem is, of course, keeping the number of holidays down, so every time they make a new holiday, they take away an old one....so we end up getting the same number of days off! LOL
So yeah, I'm lucky. Maybe you should write to the person representing the area where you live, and suggest that they make Eid a holiday, to recognise the Muslim population contribution to society......you never know, it might just work!!!!!

Well you can't get off of school for Ramadan. That's a whole month!
It's all about political clout. It's funny to see areas in DC that are mostly African American getting out of school for Jewish holidays. My sister's high school is 90% Black. There are lots of Muslims but not a single Jew. And yet, they are out for Yom Kippur and not Eid. It's all politics! Eventually there will be more Muslims in this country, and we will start to see Muslim holidays recognized in the school system.

nicely Ramadan is over a month so no. Even in Islamic international places, scholars attend college whilst fasting, as your assume to do all your frequent paintings. The day after Ramadan is Eid, that would desire to be a trip.

Ramadan isn't considered to be a national holiday, that's why schools, banks, and %95 of the stores are open on that day. And correct me if I am mistaken, Ramadan spans over more than one day...
In the US, there are litterally hundreds of faiths, and think of how many holidays...ect

Because in America, they only count the 'major' holidays, the ones that half the country would celebrate. I wish we could celebrate Eid though. =(
