6 to 8 months is all they should be kept frozen. . The best way to cook a turkey is by first slitting the skin in the breast area and sliding some butter under there then season the bird and place it in one of those oven bags . Place it on a rack breast down . This way the juices from the dark meat will run down into the breast meat and along with the butter will keep the breast meat nice and juicy instead of dry and stringy. I then flip the bird the last 30 minutes so the top side will brown and make the skin crispy alittle. I know the skin is not good to eat but I love it thats the only reason why i even concern myself with making it brown up. I always take all the meat off of the bones before serving it anyway. I find it is a lot easier for people to be able to just get some meat and not have to worry about having bones to stare at on the table. If you have a meat grinder any turkey meat that is left over that you want to use for sandwiches is alot better ground up. When you are ready to use the meat for sandwiches you then mix it with mayo like you do with tuna. This way when you are eating the sandwich you arent ending up with a big chunk of turkey meat hanging from your mouth and none left in the bread. It even gives it a better taste for some reason. I also like use left over turkey meat in a kind of mexican dish. I heat up the turkey meat in a frying pan then I take 2 large tomatoes that I have boiled slightly and then mashed with a potatoe masher and picked out all the skin and add that along with some chopped onion and a tiny bit of chile jalepenos, season and let simmer for a few minutes and serve like burrito meat or just served with rice. Just plain turkey is really kind of boring. I also like to make gravy from the juices of the turkey and then shred up the meat and mix it into the gravy and serve it over rice or over the stuffing. You can do just about anything with turkey it just depends on your taste. My old man says that my inventions always taste better than any recipe i try to follow. If it sounds good to you who cares if it isnt something normally done that way .

As Long as it is frozen you can keep it for at least 6 mo.how else can you make a whole turkey other then roasting it? you said no frying and the only other way I know of is deep frying, but if it's not a big turkey maybe you could put it on a rotisserie

If it's been kept in the original wrapper, it can remain safely frozen for at least 6 months.

As for what to do with it: whatever you do, let it thaw fully, still in the wrapper, in the refigerator for at least 72 hours. If you don't want to roast it in the traditional Thanksgiving manner, you could cut it up and cook/roast it that way.
