It is a contract. The word "covenant" is still used in everyday legal transactions.

BTW, the covenant was promulgated between God and Abraham.

Not conditions, just a part of the law. The covenant was made when the Abraham and all of the males of his community were circumcised. Thus began the covenant of Yahweh and His people. The 10 Commandments came a long time later. Hundreds of years I believe. God gave them to Moses to share with the people as guidelines for life. Rules are meant to keep us and others from harm.

I disagree with only for Hebrews,They will not save you, can only
show the Problem,But God, Never changes, His Law is Perfect,
We here in this Nation, Pass Thousands of Laws,because Man
breaks the Last five , Commandments.That is the 2nd table of the Law.

Moses needed something to keep the Jews from wandering off and forming splinter groups. The
laws were as good a way as any.

2 things
1-4 tell us how to love God
5-10 tells us how to love one other
and what did Jesus tell us to do???? Love God and love your neighbor as yourself
simple!
