I hate to say this but...

If you're planning on going to college and having some sort of scientific or academic career, French might be more useful. It will definitely help you fit in better with the elites. To be more blunt, there are lots of famous scientific works in French, but not in Spanish. English literature tends to have lots of French vocabulary thrown in.

However, French is a dying language. It becomes less important every year.

Spanish is more likely to be useful in daily life in the US.

Some will say French is sexier, or Spanish is sexier. But I'm pretty sure those who think Spanish is sexier usually only think so when someone Hispanic is speaking it.

It all boils down to racism, in a way. If you're white, and can learn French, you're suave. If you're white and learn fluent Spanish, you seem odd. If you're Hispanic-looking and learn high-school Spanish, you'll probably get laughed at for not being fluent...
but just choose whatever you like.

Why not try 1 year of each and then pick the one you like?

You should study the one that interests you most.

I've studied both and don't buy into one being easier than the other. Different aspects of each language are challenging.

The vote for prettier goes to French in my mind. The Spanish nasal (from Spain) just isn't pretty.

The useful vote, if you're in many U.S. areas, is certainly for Spanish. With the large hispanic population in the U.S. already and its continued growth, knowing Spanish would be a great boost to any career search.

There isn't a "better language." It really depends on you, and what you'd like to learn. Both French and Spanish are major languages in our world today.

Spanish, unless you live in Southern Louisiana, Near the Canadian Border, or in a Haitian neighborhood.

Even then the French you learn in school will be very different from Qubecois, Cajun or Creole.

Spanish and french have a lot of words in common. I would say Spanish because I have been taking it since 2nd grade.

Spanish. Especially in los Estados Unidos (the U.S.) It's much easier to learn, way less random, easier to pronounce, and just flat-out a better language.

Spanish, especially if your gonna work in the United States. French is useless unless you live in France and it sounds icky. Not pleasing to the ear.
