McClellan collapsed after the fight not during it, Benn had KO'd him in the 10th round of one of the most amazing see-saw boxing matches of alltime (Benn was down and nearly out in the 1st round and was down again a couple more times in the fight as well), its a shame that we cant remember the fight for the classic it was, it will only be remembered for what happened to Gerald after the fight which was an absolute tragedy, he was a truly great warrior and was a great loss to the fight game, its a crying shame that Gerald's corner hadnt recognised how much trouble he was in, he developed real breathing difficultys towards the latter rounds of this fight and had this been spotted there might be a chance he wouldnt be in the condition he is now. Truly brilliant fighter to watch, really exciting, and i do wonder to myself sometimes that if he had the chance to do it all again would he still be a boxer. I mean he still has a great legacy which a lot of other people on the planet will never have. He was a truly great champ and will always be a champ in my eyes.

He was fighting Nigel Benn at the time. He almost beat Benn in the first round (he knocked Benn through the ropes, and the referee allowed him an age to climb back into the ring).

McLellan was slightly ahead at the time the fight was stopped.

Franz Marti 84-84
Jose J. Guerra 87-84 for mcclellan
Anek Hongtongkam 85-84 for mcclellan

McLellan's treatment and medication apparently costs something like $500 a day. Roy Jones has donated a lot of money to McLellan over the years, because the two were best friends. I think seeing his best friend hurt like that somehow affected Roy. He often seemed reluctant to knock people out after McLellan was permamently injured.

I think at the point the fight was stopped it was pretty even Mcclellan might have been slightly ahead as he started very well and scored a knock down in the first rouned. Theres a benefit evening in his honour being held in London on the 24th of Feb he will be there along with Nigel Benn and quite a few other name boxers. Go to www.geraldmcclellan.co.uk which gives you details of the event and info on Geralds current condition.

I heard Roy Jones Jr used to donate a lot of money to help out McClellan after he was permanently injured

He was fighting Nigel Benn. It did look like he was ahead on the cards.
