You can chain him inside the yard without it inhibiting his ability to run and play outside. You just need to get a long enough lead (or 2 or 3) or one of those lines that have the sliders (I don't know what they are called) and a harness so if he gets stuck he doesn't get hurt struggling.
Otherwise you can try putting chicken wire underground around the fence (major project) so he can't dig his way out. Also, watch to see how he's escaping and try to make the necessary repairs.
You can also try getting one of those shock fences that cover the perimeter of the yard and shock the dog when they try to leave with the fence/collar on (oww >.< but I hear they work wonders).
Or, just leave him under supervision when he's outside during those times of year.

If you don't want the suggestion then dont ask the question. Are you breeding or planning on breeding this dog? If not, then there is no need for his testicles. Down the road he will thank you because he will not get prostate or testicular problems (LIKE CANCER!!). It is not mutilation, trust me. They are up and running around the day after surgery. Also, he keeps getting out, one of these days he could get hurt or even worse running around in the streets. Really, do him a favor, be smart and get him neutered.

I'm going to respect your wishes and not suggest you get him neutered.
However, you have a couple of options to make sure your dog is not hit by a car.
1. Never leave him outside unattended. i.e., you take him outside on a leash, or you go outside with him. You don't leave him out there in the yard running free if you aren't out there. There's never a way for you to know when a female is in heat or not. His natural insticts are going to take over and he's going to spend every free moment working to get out of the yard if he smells a female in heat. He can't help it. That's nature.
2. If you are going to leave him outside, you are going to have to chain him. That's a horrid life for a dog. It's a shame to have a fenced yard and have to chain a dog in it. This means that when he has to go to the potty, he has to go on the chain. Unless you are going to stand out there with him, he has to go on the chain.
Sorry about this, those are the options. If you could smell the same thing he does, you'd know when there was a female in heat and you'd know when it was safe to leave him out. This is the ONLY way to keep him from getting hit by a car.
You are playing a dangerous game with him. A dog that gets out of the fence - regardless of the reason, will eventually get hit, killed, injured, stolen, picked up or lost. It's just a matter of time.
It's option 1 or 2.
Option 3 is the one I promised not to talk about.
Good luck.

Even though you are against it gettin him fixed would solve most of the problem. Male dogs are naturally more likley to run because of what they want. The only thing I could suggest is a little more discipline and a more reliable fence that can actually keep him in. Also lots of exercise will tire him out so he will be a little lazy if you will, and he wont have the energy to misbehave as much.

The only way to make him not run after the "booty" is to make sure there isn't any around. If people with animals would spay and neuter then there wouldn't be any Female dogs to be in heat which in turn would keep your dog at home...so it is in fact a vicious cycle. You may be against Neutering and that is fine but you better know what the risks are. Testicular cancer is the number ONE killer of non neutered male dogs. I hate to preach here but i am sure that there will be people that will be upset by this question for that reason. On a lighter side of things they actually have implants to replace the testicles once they are removed..pretty cool. He would be more loyal to you and stay at home with his "pack" if his testosterone wasn't driving him to search for "booty". Good luck.

I lost my first dog because of a situation like this. He had a nylon-rope tie-out in our yard that he chewed through to get at a female in heat. He got hit by a car a couple blocks away from my house. Fortunately, the people that lived near there recognized him as my dog. I was 8 years old, and I had to go pick up his dead body and carry it home in a garbage bag, crying all the way.
So now, in hindsight, I wished my parents had not wanted him to keep 'all his parts'. It wasn't worth his life.

Have you ever considered a leash? Maybe a little bit of common sense like if you know your dog can get out--stop putting him out there until you can replace part of the fence? You can get 20-30 foot leashes and he will have plenty of room to go outside and run. I don't think that *the point of being outside* is to escape and get hit by a car, do you?

Neuter him!!
There are many benefits to spaying/neutering pets.
http://www.mypetnanny.info/Link_Pages/Lost_Found.htm
There are millions of pets in this country that will never find a good home. Don't let your dog be a contributor to this problem. Not only that, but if an owner finds out that it is your dog that got her pregnant you could be looking at a serious law suit.
Your lucky nobody has turned your dog into animal control yet!!

Just chain him up. Or if there are holes in the fence fix them. And it there aren't then line the bottom of your fence with a layer of cement. This keeps him from digging holes under the fence. And if he climbs the fence, try making the fence higher and putting something on top to stop him from completely climbing out.

OK. I agree with you. It is wrong for women to beat on their husbands. But it's still wrong for a man to hit a woman. Men have more brute force. But, she shouldn't be instigating you that way or she could risk getting hit. If my husband hit me, chances are he's getting the crap kicked out of him. And I will admit, that I have hit him. I am not proud of this, and immediately apologized.( I didn't beat him, just slapped him across the face) He's never hit me and I thank god that he knows how to control his anger better than me. But I don't go around beating him regularly like your wife does to you. True, she probably should get hit, but no offense, what do you expect to happen to you when you are calling her a fat a**? Next time she does it, call the cops on her. She CAN go to jail for domestic abuse. However I am just gonna say it, you sound like a total douche bag. How dare you say that men are superior, I honestly do not know why she married you. But its your business, this is just my opinion. The facts are straight, she shouldn't hit you. My husband just called you an a**hole, lol. So obviously not all men see it your way. Change your attitude.
