I just got him yesterday and gave him some can food. He doesn't want to drink any water, so I'm giving it to him with a seringe. I think that he was still drinking his mother's milk, so I need some advice. I have never had any puppy that was so small, I just don't want him to be sick and also how much food do I give him. He seems happy and he's playing and everything, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

You can all stop panicking, the puppy is not dying and yes I will take him to the vet next weekend. He is eating, and he is playing, barking and running. He's not dying or anything like that. I've had other puppies before ( Lab ) and the reason I was asking this question is because he is so small and it's my first time with a tiny breed.
Please answer the question, but don't worry he will be very well taking care of.

How is it that you came by this puppy? Such a young, and small puppy should really be best kept with its mother. If like you said, your puppy is still drinking the mother's milk, he shouldn't be apart from his mother. He should be getting used to hard food slowly. But if there's no way that you could take him back to be with its mother for a few more weeks, try some can food and slowly mix it with hard food. Also, feed him a little bit of honey to keep his sugar level high, only if he seems sluggish. Take him to the vet, they can give you advice on his general health and what to feed him. But the best you can do to keep him healthy is to let him go back to his mother until he is ready to come home with you. Dogs develop their immune system from drinking the mother's milk, and important socailization skills are also learned this way.

Best Puppy Food For Chihuahua

You should be 'extremely careful' with your new puppy ... because he may not have been 'weaned properly' ... feed him a 'mixture' of 1/3-1/4 canned food, half 'dry PUPPY food, and water, and be sure to 'mix it well' and let it sit for at least half an hour before you feed him. If he won't just 'lap his water out of a bowl' then you MUST give it to him with a syringe ... but be sure that he ALWAYS has a bowl of water that is short enough to 'reach' easily, and give him a syringe of water ONLY if you don't see him 'drink from the bowl' for at least four hours. Since you don't say how 'big' your puppy is (how much he weighs) I can't tell you 'how much food he needs' ... but you should be able to tell that by doing some 'calculations' from the 'feeding instructions' on the bag of dry puppy food you buy. Because this is a Chihuahua, I'd make sure I was getting 'the best possible food for 'tiny dogs' ... even if that means taking him to a vet (which you should do anyway, to get him a good 'physical' and his vaccinations) and buying the brand the vet thinks he'll do 'best' with.

Why don't you ring the breeder you got him from and ask them? But presumabley, as you have a 7 week old chihuahua pup, you haven't got him from a reputable breeder as they wouldn't have let him go this early. Just keep with soft foods for now or biscuits softened with water thats what we did when we weaned our litter, that way he is at least getting a little liquid until he starts drinking properly

my suggestion is Eukanuba small bites puppy food. it is a good diet and helps with coat, bone, and muscle development. give him half a cup of this food three or four times a day. a chihuahua has a higher metabolism than most other dogs and therefore needs to be fed more often because they will run most of the sustenance off before their next meal. it will also keep him from losing a large amount of weight like most puppies do when they arrive in a new home. another is showing him how to drink out of a bowl, it sounds to me like the breeder that you got the pup from didnt bother on showing him how to do much of that like eating and drinking from a bowl. i hope this information helps you alot.

Yeah seriously take the puppy to a vet and make sure everything's in order. I don't even think people should have puppies at 7 weeks, that's simply too young. Anyway the vet will tell you precisely what to feed it.

Dog Training is all about getting your canine to behave well, but some people do it for sports and other entertainment purposes. Some of the other reasons people train their dogs are:

It rewarding since you get a sense of accomplishment once a dog can do something new.
It is a good opportunity to bond with the dog - this is important for the dog and for the owner.
You can make money when you train dogs as a business or for sport.
Training the dog is fun and it challenges the owner and the dog.
Different trainers have different techniques for training their canine. However, some techniques are more effective than others. To learn about the best techniques, visit a registered dog trainer, talk to a veterinarian, or do online or offline research.
There are several types of training that you, or a professional, can explore to train dogs and these are:

1) Behavior and obedience training: One training that is universal is behavior and obedience training. This is done on dogs of all ages, but it is better to start when the canine is a puppy because as they say, it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. Behavior and obedience dog trainingbrings out the best in the dog and it makes understanding each other easier.

2) House training: House training is very important and it should also start when the dog is still a puppy. House training is all about training the dog to have house manners and to respect your space. There are several techniques used for this and they include crate training and pad training for training the dog to 'go' outside.

3) Positive reinforcement: Positive reinforcement is a new type of training approach and it is all about rewarding the dog for good behavior or for learning a new trick. All animals tend to perform better when there is a promise of a reward. Possible rewards are snacks, interaction with other dogs, giving the dog your attention, or giving the dog tug toys - the reward should take into consideration what the dog likes because dogs are different.

4) Negative reinforcement: Negative reinforcement training approach has been used for many years where the dog is punished for failure to learn or to behave properly, but this does not work because it only makes the canine scared and causes it to lose confidence. Negative reinforcement techniques included beatings and electric shocks.

5) Trick training: Trick training is done for fun, by those who want a sports dog, and those involved in other entertainment activities such as the circus. You should choose the dog carefully to avoid frustration because some dogs are easier to train than others.

6) Teething: It is important to train dogs when they are teething because they are under a lot of pain and they usually chew on furniture such as table legs, shoes, and even wallpaper. Possible training techniques for discouraging the chewing are bad-smelling sprays on items that are at risk and giving the dog chew toys.

7) Command training: It is possible to train dogs to follow commands. These commands include 'sit', 'attack', and 'fetch', among others. This requires patience and there are various techniques of dog training that can be used to achieve this such as giving rewards.

You don't say one word about taking him to the vet for a physical and all his puppy shots! Take him right away! A vet will tell you what to feed him..and how much and how often..a tiny puppy like that can die of low blood sugar. He must eat..probably every 3 or 4 hours. Please take him to the Vet!!
