An ideal set for you would be 5 woods, 7 irons, a putter and a wedge. The rules of golf specify a 14 club maximum, so some golfers take out the lower irons (1,2) in favor of extra woods or wedges. If you had to pick 4 clubs to start with, I'd pick a 9 iron, putter, 5 Iron and 3 Wood. You'll do 70-90 percent of your scoring with these 4 clubs.

First of all, learn to use Spellcheck. OK, now you will need a putter, 3-9 irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge, a driver, and no. 3 and no. 5 woods.
This should get you started. You can be more selective once you get a little feel for the game.

Normally.
A driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 iron, 4 iron, 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, pw, sw, and putter
but it is good to get a lob wedge and these days its easier to hit a hybrid rather that a 3 or 4 iron.
