This goes out to a boy a lost because i made the mistake of not knowing how much he meant to me for it is said, "Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation." And how true that is cause until i lost him i had no idea he was the one i wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And now i get to learn my lesson the hard way... "Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go. But I will not let go because i found the one for me. And i will wait... but the longer i wait the more i notice about us and I start to wonder, "How could an Angel break my heart?" All those times i hurt you i caught you maybe last minute but i caught you. So now i wait falling through mid air hoping you will catch me... I know you found another girl... but no one can replace you or me... Because "Hearts are not had as a gift, But hearts are earned." So I'm still waiting for my chance to yours back and all i know is once i earn your ..... it goes on!

It really all depends on why you broke up with him, or why you thought that you had to. You need to examine those reasons very carefully and be sure that you're making the correct decision. Ask yourself why you want him back so badly.
As you wrote, you made a mistake; accordingly, you will have to admit that to him as well, because he will (understandably) wonder what is going on and why you're changing your mind.
However, be prepared if he doesn't want you back because he doesn't want to get hurt again. If this is so, then you have to let it go and hopefully consider it a lesson learned. If he does take you back, make sure that this is what you want because you'll probably be on thin ice for awhile to start. He may forgive you the first time, but I highly doubt you would be given a third chance. He'll have in the back of his mind that this girl doesn't know what she wants and makes decisions without thinking them through, so he may never know what you'll do next without warning.
Tough position to be in, but you can come out ahead if you're sure of what you want and what you're doing before you go in.

Heart felt, but now you are going to have to move on rather than be a ghost in the shadows haunting. Sometimes we do things and not know why somtimes it is a good thing sometimes bad but we can not go back after we toss the glass of milk over our shoulders cause you will be drinking glass shards and who knows what else on floor too.
Bottom line: I wish you well and happiness with your next love endeavor.
