at American National Guards men isnt this call hq more Vietnam type crud ? I say if they poitn a Gun at a gi they die, right there on the spot.

Well for the guy saying that the National Guard cannot not have weapons on the south west border(swb) he is wrong, they all car weapons. The soldiers that pulled back, could have shot the illegals shooting at them. They made the decision to pull back and let the Border Patrol handle it. The only thing the National Guard is there for is to assist the Border Patrol. I have been down there, we are helping. We also help on the gates we see some things that the BP don't. I think the National Guard is doing a great job. The best answer is that they could of shot back but instead the de-escalated the situation and no one was hurt.

Okay i get your point. I dont think that the Guard should be on the border to begin with. Because the can not do anything!! Its like putting a security at a bank and saying... you are to be the security, but, if someone robs dont do anything. Doesnt make sense right? I took a oath to protect the United States against all enemies foreign and Domestic. I would fight to the end for this Country. But how can you do anything when you are not supposed to. I personnaly dont care who it is if you point a gun at me you die. The border Patrol does have the authorization to shoot someone if they point a gun. Not the guard. So why put them there?? duh! If this is the case then (1) we should hire alot more Border Patrol Agents (like me who has had a package in for 11 months, who is a veteran with a clean record and strong devotion to country) to protect our borders. or (2) Give the guard the authority to actually do something. I am of Mexican descent. But my ancestors have defended this country in many conflicts and made themselves proud Americans an lived by the rules and constitution that govern this great country. If I was on the guard and someone pointed a gun at me I would shoot them if they pointed a gun at me. I would give the U.S. a wake up call by doing so. Anyway I hope I answered this question correct.

This is a very astute observation. However, you need to realize that the Federal Government and President Bush do not control the National Guard. That responsibility lay upon the shoulder of their Governor.
Furthermore, the movement of troops conus or oconus is directed by the Democratic House and the Democratic Senate.

Also, the NG on SWB duty do not carry weapons. Another issue for the democratic led congress to address in my opinion.

What can he do about it. If they are on Mexico's land he has no jurisdiction. Unless he wants to go to war with mexico too.
