It just takes once. She'll learn.

That sounds like a potentially disastrous situation. If you have a door on your kitchen close it. If not, you can try putting a static mat at the doorway (www.drsfostersmith.com), or you can try the scare tactic, find a metal can with a lid and put some coins in it, when the cats come in the kitchen or near the stove try shaking the daylights out of the can, the racket should scare them off. You can always scream and yell and chase them out when they come into the kitchen. You have to be consistent. It won't be OK to come into the kitchen now but not later, that only confuses them.
They are not attracted to the heat, but the food you are cooking.
I had a cat who got behind the stove and crawled into the drawer under the stove because it was quiet. Luckily I spotted his hiding place before he got cooked, and then filled it up with pans so he couldn't get back into it.

Yeah, that freaks me out too; I think they can sense the heat. I get nervous when I open the oven to get something out and always worry that she'll come running and jump. Mine has never actually done that (they're smarter than you'd think). But when she was a kitten I would ALWAYS put her in the bedroom or bathroom while I was doing anything with the stove/oven just to be safe. I would do that just so you don't have to worry. Your cat won't get mad at you; he/she will just take a little nap.
I wouldn't bother using a bunch of deterrents though. That will only draw more attention to the stove and your cat will get curious why you want to keep him/her off of it so bad.

I have worried about that. I have a ceramic top stove that is totally flat and of course it stays hot for a while after it is turned off. I have one habitual counter cruiser and he has never been burned by the stove. I think they sense the heat very well and know to stay away from it.

supply the animal some credit. she gained't stick some thing in the fireplace. If there is the slightest soreness she will scurry. besides the undeniable fact that injuries do take position, if the animal is smart in any respect she is secure. for sure, hair in the food isn't pleasant. Get some cat treats and at the same time as she receives on the range, throw them onto the floor. basically one or 2. She'll get the game quick and after a at the same time as will wait on the floor for the treats quite of dropping her attempt hopping up on the range.

My cat does the same thing. She is very aware of the heat aspect & doesn't go near it when it's on even if I'm away from the stove, in another room. They "smell" heat.

I just watch my cat carefully when I cook every second and not let her jump up...it's hard, but I don't want her to get burned even once.

Put balloons, duct tape upside down ( that how I keep stray cats off my lawn furniture. My cats never jumped up when hot I think they know.

Use smoke - they instinctly know that means "fire" or "danger". Put them up there when the oven is cool, then light a match under them - or blow smoke at them from a cigarette or incense stick... if they don't move, then you might have a problem. Otherwise you might have to spray some "Indoor No" on strategic parts of the oven.
