Art (the Sistine Chapel ceiling), music (Handel's "Messiah") and social order and advancement at a time when the world needed it, care of the sick and the poor. Religion may have lost its place in a modern world, but it probably saved us from a lot of unnecessary chaos in its earlier years. There is also a decided psychological advantage to believing in an eternal paradise and a cosmic sense of justice. I don't think we need to ban religion - I think we need to encourage education instead. The truth is the mightiest weapon of all against religious superstition.

'Cuttiing to the chase', there are basically 2 types of religion: True, & False. MANY factions of the False CLAIM to be true, & have thus given a Horrible & Undeserved reputation to the True, in many people's minds. It is False religion that has caused ALL the troubles you've described, not True religion ...
Christendom Has Betrayed God and the Bible :
- Unbiblical Doctrines
- Ungodly Actions
- Not Christian
http://watchtower.org/library/pr/index.htm?article=article_04.htm
God's plan --since the False got it's start-- has been to wipe out every vestige of the False ... and every indication is that it is very near to happening!
The End of False Religion Is Near!
- What Is False Religion?
- How Will It End?
- How Will You Be Affected?

True Christianity Is Flourishing
- The Basis for Christian Unity
- Why Churches Are Divided
- True Christians Are Still United

Claims don't make a person. Actions do.
The same goes with organizations, including those religious!

Religion has only given those things that you mentioned because they were man's/humankind's doing. Jesus, if you read about it, attacked these sort of things and that is why the church HATED Him, even asked the roman ruler to kill Him. Jesus only wanted relationship with people, not some ceremony rites or vows or prayer beads or war or murder......Jesus made it clear that the way to God was through only faith alone in Jesus as the salvation, because after Jesus died and then came back to life three days later, something happened spiritually.
I am not a theologian or high and mighty professor at a college, but I do understand truth when I hear it. My job now is to tell everyone of what I believe so that when their day comes, they aren't able to answer, "well, no one ever told me that....."

I can not speak for other religions, so I will speak for Christians.
Lets take you first point hate. The bible says to love everybody including sinners, and to forgive others. Can not blame religion for that.
Wars. In the jungles of Africa there are tribes that have no religion what so ever, but yet tribal wars are common. In North America, even before the arrival of Europeans there were wars. So even without religion we still have wars. How many wars have there been and how many of them were fought for religion? A small fraction.
Slaughter: One of the ten commandments is "thou shall not kill", so religion is against slaughter.
Superstition. I have witnessed some miracles. It is not superstition to me.

AUTHOR OF CONFUSION
God is not the author of confusion, it is man, who because of his hypocrisy, his ulterior motives and his vested interests, has created so much confusion in their beliefs about the "same God" and thus has, in the name of God, destroyed countless innocent human lives besides dividing mankind Into Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus etc. God sent all his Prophets with one and the same message which was "Worship none but the one and only Almighty imageless God".
Thus there is only one religion since the first man set foot on earth till today.

Whatever Franco, what are you afraid of? If you are so secure in your own belief system why are you bringing this up. Like a religion do you need the world to agree with you on what you believe to be true?
This is where we go wrong. Even denying the world's religions we attempt to create a new one.
I believe that truth is individual and no one shares the same truths at any time, so tolerance is what is needed. Not the forcing of issues.

So you see the light? And no one should blame you for this way of thinking. This is exactly what professed religion has placed before man. But I know that with a little guidance you can see futher than most people do?
The problem is that our creator has allowed us to choose for ourselves. which way to go? : That when he created us he gave us a free will to think for ourselves. He also started with just one Law or requirement. That we leave his one tree alone, and that was fair because he gave us all the other trees.
By the same token today he gave us a law book to read and see if we want to follow his law.
The problem today is that we have allowed our religous leaders to tell us what the book says, and to do as they say, which involves traditions of men and that causes us to lie, cheat, steel, murder, rape, and go to war, and on and on.
If you woud take the time to read or better yet study his book you also would find out why he has allowed this to continue, and what he will soon do about it.
For example as Professed Christianty recite this prayer in words only (Mathew 6:9,10) they don't decern the meaning of it.
So I will guide you to a little of what it means. When we ask for his name to be hollowed that means to hold on high and to makeit known. When we ask for his kingdom to come and his will to take place on earth as it does in heaven we are asking for Daniel2:44, and Revelation 21:3,4.
To think without study of a subject can cause error in our thinking? for example to think that God is just nature is caused by no or lack of study on the subject and that makes a person just as guility as the ones that follow the lie, that you see so plainly in your question. and thats a mistake. I am not trying to be right, I am trying to help you see God's side. His side has nothing to do with this world and its problems? just read James 4:1-4

You are right, God is nature. If you live in the Gulf Coast region of America you will know to bow down to nature. You are also right about fanatical religion. People are confused, not leaving myself out, I believe in God and In Jesus, I am a Catholic, baptized and confirmed. I pray all of the time, for peace, my family and all of the poor people of our world. I will not ever stop. I pray the Rosary and am very fond of the love shown to us by the Mother of Christ. Nature is God, you are right...

Sin and flesh produce lust, hate, fear, and pride which all lead to immoral wars, slaughter, terrorism, rape, sorcery and abuse. Man-made religion produces nothing but death. Religion from above which is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ brings life and liberty! If you have eyes to see and ears to hear, it's quite clear God not only exists but He is both speaking and active in the world today.
