If you want to do funny faces, find a photo booth and knock yourself out. A drivers license is an official document, and your face cannot be covered or contorted into strange expressions. Hat off. If you start making faces when they try to take your picture, they will either charge you again, or ask you to leave and you won't get your license.

I don't think there's a legal reason why you can't. Try it and see!!! Most of the time, the people working at the DMV have NO sense of humor, can't take a joke, and just want the day to pass as quickly as possible.
If you catch them on a good day, or on a day they just don't give rip, I'm guessing you can get away with it. The downside is that you may start to regret it - you've got to use it often and may get tired of the odd looks. Just think - every time you use your credit card, when you go to the bank, getting a new job, at the tax prep office, applying for a new "xyz" account, etc.
Heck, if you can get a driver's license with your face completely covered, why can't you get one when your face is contorted???

We take driver licence photos in our busy insurance office. We get all of $1.00 for taking your picture. If you insisted on farting around like that, wasting our time, and the time of others waiting for insurance policies, home insurance quotes, new vehicle registrations, etc, knowing full well your picture was only going to be rejected anyway, we would shut down the camera and ask you to leave. I would quite imagine somebody waiting for insurance on his home would be quite vocal about the waste of his time as well. Not smiling on a passport photo is a new world standard, by the way. Ask your local Homeland Security Agent about it.

As long as your eye color shows, you may make a face if you want, that will be the picture the cop sees also, so think before being immature. Most people like to look their best for this photo, why do you want to look foolish? And not smiling on a passport?Where did you get that info? Our family has three passport owners, all are smiling and their passports are valid.

They will do it again and you will pay for every re-take. Think that is cheap? Not at $15 a crack. Or they could be real nice and not issue a drivers license. They don't have to give you a license.....it is a priviledge to drive - remember? It is in your training manual.

JUST KEEP SPAZING EVERYTIME THEY GO TO TAKE THE PICTURE, LOL, I DONT THINK THEY WILL TAKE A MILLION JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A STRAIGHT FACE. ASK THE CLERK IF SHE SEEMS COOL, SHE MAY LET YOU GO WITH IT. LOL, I WILL KEEP CHECKING THIS QUESTION, CAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING I WOULD DO AND I WANNA KNOW NOW.
