All religions have periods where they are spread by the sword. the Hebrews did it in Cana. Christians did it several times in their history, in the 300's, from the 400's to the 1200's, during the 1500's when they invaded the new world. Islam did it for a while, but soon stopped it.
But democracy is not being spread by the sword. W is trying to spread it by the Gun, the bomb and the bullet.
This is because President Bush has said, that his administration is not based on reality, but is based on what his God says he should do. And Tony bLiar is a born again Christian, converted by W's loving hands.
This is my personal opinion, and not necessarily anyone else's.
I've answered your questions, and your point is?

What's the connection between the two? If democracy is supposedly being spread by the sword, that doesn't mean Islam isn't. Both can be true at the same time.

Cowards?
Islam was not spread by the sword. Democracy is a whole can of worms. Even the United States is not supposed to be a Democracy... but it is quickly becoming one.

Democracy isn't being spread by the sword. I don't give a rat's rear end if middle eastern crazies want to embrace democracy. And Democracy without a system of protection for minorities is worthless anyway. If you have a Democracy in Saudi Arabia, the Government would be more crazed then it is now. I have no interest in promoting Democracy any where.
Capitalism and markets are being spread by the sword. Forming bases to protect our markets is being spread by the sword.

Democracy is being spread by the sword today because the devil is in charge of the earth.Does that make Christians Evil? Of course not.Does that mean we have a corrupt Government?Probably. But the government is elected by a multitude of People from various religious and non religious backgrounds including Islamic. This does not make any religion totally responsible for democracy. It does however give us the opportunity to oust a government if we are not happy with their performance regardless of our religious background. It also allows us to practice our religious beliefs without persecution. If you want to study Islam that's your choice but it should never be forced on someone from another faith. They should be shown the reasons why you practice your faith and given the choice on their own.

The majority of all things have been spread by the sword. Look at the spread of Christianity. The Spanish Inquisition wasn't exactly a love fest.

World War I was supposed to be the war to end all wars. After that war the league of nations was formed to prevent another war like that from happening which as we all know now didnt work. So World War II came along and again they reorganized this league to be the United Nations but they still havent been able to stop war. Diplomacy has been tried over and over and has failed.
All the prophecies but one leading up to Christ return has been fulfilled
2 Thessalonians 2
1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
no man will lay down his sword until Christ returns and then all our swords will be beaten into plows and there will be no more war. All you yahoos that dont think christ is for real just go ahead and try to stop what is going on right now if you can stop it then i will believe you
