A boken is a wooden sword replicated after a katana. It is a non lethal weapon, but that depends on the skill of the wielder. But for someone who aspires to travel on foot, that person would need protection without the use of firearms or sharp objects. Also I also wonder if cops would stop you in the street for carrying a boken in plain sight.

Look this is a simple question. If you are immature and ignorant do not answer. No this is not because of some animation or content I have read. It is a simple question of whether can I or can not and what are the consequences.

I hope you won't mind me advising you NOT to carry any weapon that others can see.
As to your question...I believe that whether or not carrying a bokken is LEGAL or NOT will depend on your location.
There are many places in Cal;ifornia where it would be against the law,and many places in the other states. Where it't OK and where it isn't is research that you would have to do.
Not knowing where you intend to travel, I would not even offer to research this.
I know that the jerks I've had to deal with would regard anybody carrying a wooden sword as legitimate prey. The people you most need to be concerned with regard the open display of a weapon as a challenge. A wooden sword is a GREAT weapon, but since I don't think you're very well trained, I'd remind you that if you're NOT hemmed in a tight place and have room enough to use it you could probably just run away. And in a hallway or a football gangtackle by several determined guys you'd just be meat. Because...and here's the secret...if you really HAVE used a wooden sword enough, say, a couple of hours a day for four or five years...you find you've got really good fists. rabs, and footwork too. Just thought I'd mention it...the peole I know who have lots of experience with swords and escrima don't need to have the weapons....they have BECOME the weapon.
But to go on...I don't think you would have a problem in carrying a cane, even a kind of long one, and keeping it ready in your hand all the time.. Also I've seen a lot of very capable people I know carrying long, rough staffs, and they are not the engineered
beveled high-tech low-power practice sticks you speak of...maybe you should just get a nice stick with good strength and balance from a tree, put some paint and feathers on it, tell people you're actually an aborigine or hippie, and go anywhere you want. Lean on it once in a while so it looks like you really need it...

If you were a friend or someone I cared about, I'd give different advice.
You know there are butterflies who LOOK like Monarch butterflies? Monarch butterflies taste bad; birds avoid them.
the butterflies I'm talking about taste GREAT, but birds avoid them because they LOOK like they taste bad. It is my opinion you need to re=think your plan.Start with the question:"What is the result I am attempting to cause here?" and you may be surprised how many OTHER and likely socially better methods may come to mind...all the best to you and yours...

The laws vary by country, but very few places would consider a bokken a "weapon." In the United States, the Second Amendment to the Constitution protects our rights to carry weapons (including--in fact, specifically--firearms) to defend ourselves--but many states and cities have enacted their own (IMHO, unconstitutional) legislation regarding weaponry.
The main points to consider are:
1) Check your local regulations! That is, both state and municipal in the U. S.
2) Do not carry any item in a threatening manner. If someone believes that they are threatened by you, you have just committed assault--even if you're carrying a pocket-comb.

All things considered, I believe that a cane or hiking stick would be a more suitable item for every-day carry.

i dont think its illegal.... tho cops might get on ur case 4 it... if u said u were on ur way 2 pratice in the park or sumthin i doubt they would care..... but it also depends on where u live... lol that guy... telss u 2 suck his a$$ then calls u gay... thats funny... but why not carry a weapon thats concealable like a pocket knife...and if its not an auto opener and the blade is not longer than 4 inches its leagal... sure its deadly but only if u use it 2 be deadly.... the laws are you can protect your self you can protect another you can protect property aslong as u dont do more than what is required 2 halt there action.... so when there on the ground stop punchin em..

Well, obviously it depends on the laws of where you are situated. Generally speaking, it could be considered a weapon, and as such, police will an stop you IF THEY CHOOSE TO. Now, this would depend on where you are, what you look like, and what you are doing with it. If you looked like some honest teenager carrying to sports lessons or something, no one would probably notice. If you looked like a gangster and were in a shady part of town, or basically looked like you were going to threaten someone with it, they probably would stop you.

well i've traveled with a boken before and nobody cared. Of coarse I didnt really go in any places with it , which the owner probably would have a problem with if you went in their store with that. But as far as cops go it depends where you live. In the US as long as your not touching the hilt its not considered brandishing it and therefore isnt illegal. Now this isnt true in all states but most

My martial arts weapon of choice is the cane / walking stick...
I haven't been stopped yet -- not even in the airport!

I have no problem with people assuming that just because I have a cane I am feeble and unable to protect myself. MOF it is a definite advantage. It even gets me to the front of the line sometimes! ;->

the police will treat it like a baseball bat. that isnt a weapon either, but can be used as one. I would not recommend it.

FLINT: why is it that trolls like you start talking about @ssholes, gay sex, @nal licking/kissing? for a real deadly super tough macho guy, you spend a lot of your time here talking about male body parts, and sexual fetish involving other men.

what is it you really want to confess?

I know you are that loud mouth down Kalamazoo street. you getting fat boy, ease off those fries.

P.S: that button on your keyboards left with "Caps Lock" written on it is 'on'. try pushing it again.

Why do you want to know? I'm guessing you're tryin to live up to some manga animation fanastany. If you do carry one around, everyone else will most likely think you're nut.
