In about a week and a half I will be flying by myself for the first time. I usually fly with someone else who takes care of the baggage and everything but this time it is only me. What kind of routine would you sugguest? Any other details would be helpful. Feel free to give me details up to the leaving the destination airport (someone would pick me up as opposed to taking a cab or renting a car).

Good tips from the previous answer.

Some other suggestions.
Check www.tsa.gov for do's and don'ts regarding what you can take through security.
If you are checking a bag - then put all liquids in that. There is no limit on the size of the bottle.
Do not pack firearms or flamables in checked bags.
I suggest not putting your camera, computer etc. into checked bags, since they have to be unlocked and may be searched by TSA (Transportation and Safety Adminitstration).
Since you are a first timer, I suggest you check your bags at the ticket counter instead of curbside (curbside costs $2-$3 per bag). If you have a e-ticket or paper ticket, this can still be done (it's easy and there is usually someone to help if your unsure of somethiing.
Have your drivers license or passport readily available. It will be checked by the ticket agent when you check your bag - and checked again when you go through security. Then you can put it away.
Don't get flustered when you go through security. They make everyone take off their shoes now, so boots will slow you down. Remove all your metal (bracelets, necklace, (earrings if they are big), belts, watch, etc.
Computers must be taken out of briefcase or bag and put in separate plastic bin also.
I am a little overley cautious, but have not been stopped in over a year ( I travel each week by air).
You can carry most foods through security, but no drinks. You have to purchase water, drinks in the gate area.
Not sure what your destination is, so hard to decide what transportation to get at the airport. I have to be flexible, so I usually rent a car. But some cities, (like New York) that is not advisable. Of course car rental costs money, so if someone can pick you up - great.

Good Luck - Be safe.
You can email my address in my profile if you have more questions on this.

Get to the airport at least 2 hours ahead of time.

Don't take anything in your carry-on luggage that airport security would confiscate, ie, flammable liquids or anything sharp.

You didn't mention your gender, but don't take knives (even the teeny little Swiss Army knife that you might have on your keychain) or they will confiscate it.

Don't take nail polish or nail polish remover onboard.

Better not to take any liquor on board either--just take some cash so you can buy drinks on the plane.

Wear comfortable shoes, as your feet may swell at a high altitude.

If you tend to get airsick, go to the pharmacist and get some Dramamine or Bonine and ask the pharmacist for instructions as to how to take them.

Once you get to the airport, ask anyone at one of the counters what to do.

Good luck.
